Placental abruption

When you suddenly start heavily bleeding, where is the blood coming from? Has the amniotic fluid been replaced by blood? Or is it bloody water? Or...? (My waters hadn't gone previously)

I hope someone can help as its niggling at me, and my debrief isn't for a couple of weeks yet.

Its when the placenta comes away from the wall of the uterus, so it's blood from the wound left behind on the uterine wall. Your waters probably won't have gone. Does that make sense?

It's fairly horrific, happened to me too. Hope you get some resolution from the debrief.

Mine was initially referred to as APH, ante-partum hemorraghe (sp?), and in that instance I'm not sure where the blood loss would be from.

Silverangel thank you for that explanation, I've managed to work out visually what happened now. It was hard with all of the questions buzzing around and getting muddled.

You are right, my waters didn't go. For some silly reason in my mind the placenta was in the fluid sack, which I know is not the case, but because baby was very bloody I couldn't seperate the thoughts.

It was horrible, but I was very fortunate and hope you were too Flowers

Lunatic, so sorry.

Thanks Tarlia, I was extremely lucky - 31 weeker twins who are now brilliant two year olds:). Could have been a very different outcome though and has really taken me until recently to get my head around it. I'd be really interested to hear if you feel the debrief was helpful?

I'm so sorry, lunatic :( Thank you Flowers

silverangel goodness, must have been a shock. Were you at home when it happened? So glad they were both fine.

It's beginning of Nov - ill let you know.
