If you had a elective section what time was yours done? Also what time did you have to go to the hospital?

Did your section get delayed because of emergencies?

Just curious, as i am having a elective section in about 6 weeks.

TIA

you'll probably be asked to go in the night before unless there's some medical reason to go earkier (eg if it would be dangerous to go into labour, in which case you might have to go for a while before). electives are in morning usually but you will have to give way to emergencies. ask whereabouts you are on the list. i was 1st for both mine. an emergency delayed my first and i had dd1 at 10.48 in the end, but i went down 1st for dd2. prep was at 9, they started the op at 9.30 and i had her by 9.55
good luck!

Was required to check in at 7am ish and suckers that we are we faithfully turned up.
Promptness might have influenced the running order because we were bumped from fourth to second first time round, and from fourth to FIRST with dd. The three people ahead of us (including someone with twins) apparently just didn't show up.
I wonder if our hospital had two theatres/teams - one for electives. I was very surprised that neither session seems to have been interrupted by any emergencies, given it was a very busy unit.
Take plenty to read Pucca.

Went in at 7 am done at about 11 I think. Great, calm experience. Good luck!

I went in the day before for 30 minute monitoring, blood tests and to meet the aneathatist (sp?).

Then went home and had to return at 7am the following morning. Due to have section at 9am but ended up having it moved to 10am due to one emergency. Plus I passed out which delayed them wanting to start it!

pucca · 01/07/2006 12:03

Thanks for the replies, i have met the anethetist already and said something about i will need to have a antacid the night before and in the morning too, i think it will be that i just have to go in in the morning.

was booked for about 10 am from memory - was wheeled in to have dd2 about 3.30pm. However with dd1 was an emergency and know I shunted others out the way so was quite happy to wait my turn.

Had to go in about 7 or 8 ish that morning. Had an antacid that night and then one in the morning again. Had to do some fasting can't remember exactly ( almost 2 years ago now) But we just had to report in the morning.

Worst thing was they got me ready all hospital gowned etc and then popped me onto a theatre trolley and I waited and waited and very hard to pop off theatre trolley to go to the loo and so on. Nurse put the telly on to distract me - BLOODY cooking shows whilst I am starving and could eat the sheets!

I was asked to arrive in hospital by 8am, and was due on the list for 10am. However there were a number of emergencies that day, so eventually arrived in theatre at 6:40pm and ds2 was born 7:15pm.

We were very nearly asked to come back after the weekend!

Miaou · 02/07/2006 07:50

I had to go in at 7am, and was booked in for 10am (elective c/s for breech baby). However they scanned me just before they prepped me and dd1 had turned so they sent me home! They did say however that I might get pushed back in favour of emergency c/ses.

Uwila · 02/07/2006 10:14

I had to be at the hospital for 7:00am. DS was born at 11:50. I was second on the schedule, and I think there was one unplanned one that bumped us both back, so I ended up third. This was at Queen Charlotte. Where are you going?

Oh, yes. I had to take the antacid also. One the night before and one the morning of.

Also, the usual practicie is the give you a pain killer up the bum after the op. You can ske them to give it to you some other way if you prefer. I didn't really fancy having someone shove something up my bum... yuck. So I just ask them to add the medicince to my drip insteadd, which they were happy to do.

I thought I was having to stay in hosptial for 5 days before the elective - as my dd1 was an emergency c-section. 2nd wouldn't get head down and they were worried about spontaneous labour and cord getting trapped. Luckily when I arrived at 6pm they told me I was first on the list for 8am next morning. I couldn't eat after 10pm or drink (even water after midnight). No-one came to see me unitl noon to say there were delays because of other emergencies. I went down at 1pm - only to be sent back upstairs as there was another emergency. Eventually at 4.30pm dd2 was delivered. That was a long day! ... but the elective was a better experience than the dd1 emergency. I do feel cheated though as I really want a normal delivery.

nutcracker · 07/07/2006 16:55

With Dd1 I went in the evening before and had the op at roughly 11am the next day.

With Ds I had to be there for 6.30 am but ended up waiting until 1pm.

Blandmum · 07/07/2006 16:58

dd was an 'emergency. They decided to do it at 11pm and she wasborn at 2 am

Ds was a real elective. I went up at 8.30 and he was born at 10.21

Both times I was already in hospital (pre eclampsia)

womba1 · 07/07/2006 17:06

I had to be at the hospital for 7am and was told that i'd be second to go to theatre after a woman who was delivering twins. However, she turned up late, i went first and my dd was born at 10am.
Good luck Pucca!

KBear · 07/07/2006 17:08

Went in at 7am.

Fire alarm went off and fire brigade turned up about 12 times throughout the course of the morning.

Kept getting pushed back due to emergencies. Was told at 1pm might be postponed until next day. Went to theatre at about 2.45 - DS delivered 3.16.
