What a ridiculous OP.

It entirely depends on the situation, doesn't it?

And it's 'versus'.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 04/10/2013 21:27

I dislike being told to 'discuss'.

MrsHoratioNelson · 04/10/2013 21:30

And what does medically assisted mean anyway? Gas and air? Machines bleeping and epidurals all round? A MW in attendance? After all, she is a medical person and is assisting...

SimLondon · 04/10/2013 23:23

i think it depends on the individual circumstances, im sure natural works out fine for some - my dd was totally stuck the wrong way round and we needed intervention, it was unforseen and i was very glad to have great midwives and doctors.

If it all goes pear-shaped then you dont want to be more than a couple of minutes away from a consultant because that's the person that in an emergency is saving lives.

LouiseD29 · 05/10/2013 07:19

The one that is best for mum and baby is.... whatever is best for mum and baby. Each situation is different and needs to be judged and managed accordingly.

CreatureRetorts · 05/10/2013 07:21

What does medically assisted mean? I gave birth in a hospital and at home with medically trained professionals ie midwives but no/minimal pain relief. I needed stitches afterwards by a consultant.

Truly "natural" would be with birthing partners, not in a hospital with all the machines and medical back up surely.

This is a wind up OP obviously.

SatinSandals · 05/10/2013 07:31

I can't stand 'discuss' either as if we are at school.
It is a remarkably silly OP. It is all down to individual circumstances. I had natural births but it was pure luck. Had I needed medical assistance then obviously it would have been best for me and the baby.
Childbirth isn't like planning a wedding! It can still be potentially dangerous for the mother and baby and you do what you can to alleviate that. There is no need to feel guilty or that you failed if you didn't have your birth exactly as you planned.
A birth where both are alive and healthy is the best for mother and baby, that is all that matters.

Bluemonkeyspots · 05/10/2013 07:36

Am I in the natural category because. all four came out my vagina or will I move over to the medical one as they were all in a hospital? Plus two of them needing help to breathe so maybe I'm "natural" but my dc are not Hmm
