Induction by ARM?

I'm booked for induction by ARM on Weds. On examination today my cervix is 1 long, 3cm dilated and very soft. (Not sure of position) this will be my 6th labour.

If ARM doesn't bring on contractions then they'll start the drip.

Would anyone mind sharing their experience of induction by ARM and whether it started contractions or a drip was needed and also timescale from membranes being ruptured and contractions starting if possible?

So... They started the drip at 7, although the monitor was showing some contractions before they started it, but I couldn't feel them. After 45 mins of only 2ml of synto per hour on the drip baby started showing signs of distress and I was over contracting, so they turned it off again. Contractions carried on but again, I couldn't feel them and they weren't lasting long, so at 10pm they examined me (I was 4cm dilated and fully effaced) and put the drip back on for 45 mins after which time I started over contracting again.

So, no drip but I carried on contracting by myself and baby was very happy. The contractions weren't painful at all for quite a while and I managed on the birthing ball with no pain relief until about 12.30 when I started gas and air. Contractions got very painful very fast and I asked to be examined at about 12.50 as I felt a bit 'pushy' I was 8cm and off my face on gas and air, begging for an epidural/diamorphine/any pain relief going. They tried to take the gas and air from me and I apparently went a bit mad and insisted on having it back.

DS was born at 1.19 after not much pushing while I was near hysterical. he's doing absolutely great and luckily I can laugh at the birth, I can vaguely remember the obstetrician saying 'there's not much point in an epidural my love, you're having a baby' as I was pushing. (I had told them I would an for an epidural at transition but definitely didn't want one)

Not sure if the bit of drip I had made the end more painful or if I was just being a wimp, but it was both my best and worst birth...
