Has anyone had a VBAC for the 3rd baby, with the 1st being a VB?

I had such a nasty tear (3rd/4th) with DS that it was recommended I have an elective with DD 18 months later.

Later this year, nearly 3 years on, I will be having baby number 3. But how?

I'm hoping to try for a VBAC but I'm wondering whether anyone else has been in this situation. I now have a tear (which has hopefully healed like it never happened - wishful thinking?) and a c-section scar to consider.

Hi Gem

I remember when you were considering your options for number 2
As you probably can guess I do know women who have had VB - CS - VB... I also know women who had very nasty tears and had no scratch atthe following VB... Went to a interestng US workshop on tears the other day... VERY interesting stuff came out of that too!!!
As I remember our discussions from last time I can certainly suggest people local to you with whom you might like to talk to.
If you are interested feel free to CAT me... if you don't - no worries [smiles]

Thanks pupuce - it's great to be remembered

I'm CATing you now.

Ouch gem!! I'm very lucky not to have had a 3rd degree, but have had 2 sections followed by 2 second degree tears, then the latest and biggest baby tore my slighlty but no stiches needed. Do you know why you tore so badly? Was it a very difficult labour with lots of fiddling? I think if I had torn as badly as you I would be worried about it happening again. Saying that my tears weren't in the same place. Have you talked to someone to find out the likelhood of the tear opening up. Gosh, this is a tricky one!!

Hi Gem13
I had a VG delivery ( with ventouse) my my 1st, then an emergency C section, then 14 months later went on to have a brilliant VBAC.
I tore with the VG delivery, and had a fair few stitches. This time not a scratch- yay.
It is a very personal choice, to me I wanted to do a VG delivery with no assistance, and I hated my C section. With others they prefer C sections, so it comes down to what you want.
HTH !

I had a VG delivery first time round, with a tear, then an emergency c section, and had a vbac earlier this year. I ended up with episiotomy and ventouse this time round, so it wasn't ideal, but it worked for me, and I would have done almost anything to avoid another cs.
No advice really, as it's such a personal decision, but it can be done (andI'm sure isn't that uncommon)
Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your replies. It's good to hear there are people who were in the same position as me and managed to avoid another c-section.

I'm hoping to have a doula this time to encourage me even more and be brave for me!

Off to see the consultant next week so he can look at all my scars!
