We have been book in for an ELCS for DC2 due to complications in my first labour. Incredibly relieved Smile

Is as just wondering did you have your ELCS or did it get bumped by a few days as it was an ELCS.

I had a category 3 EMCS because my waters had broken and DS4 was an unstable lie as he was prem. So not a proper emergency but it needed doing before I went into labour or got an infection so I was in between the ladies having ELCS and the ladies in labour needing EMCS in terms of priority. My CS was meant to be 1pm on Sunday but I got bumped to 9am on Monday because of emergencies.

elliejjtiny · 27/09/2013 10:09

I think it must happen like that quite a lot because the midwife was telling me that some ladies and their partners get really angry and start throwing things and I was being remarkably patient. I can't have been that patient though as DH took my watch off me so I couldn't see how long I had been waiting and told me to stop whinging about being hungry Grin.

I have been told if we arrive on say a Friday, it will be 'done' by lunchtime. I think my hospital only books 2/3 ELCS in a day. A great friend of mine had a phone call 2 days before ELCS to be told it was being moved as she wasn't a EMCS, had no medical reasons etc etc what the lady at the end of the phone didn't know was my friend had had a still birth the year before. One phone call from her consultant and it was sorted. However she was a total mess. Poor love.

I'm total expecting it to be moved closers to the date however it would total mess up my childcare plans....

Have to say if I rock up on the day and it's bumped 2 or 3 days I wouldn't be pleased. ESP as I have to arrive at 7am and not have eaten. Tired hungry, emotional and heavily pregnant...no wonder people get cross Grin

When I kept getting bumped I had 2 or 3 pre-meds. I was starved all day on Sunday until 11pm. Then DH was sent home and I had an hour to eat and drink before the fasting started again. I also had a drip in on Sunday afternoon to stop me getting dehydrated. It was boiling on the ward and I was desperate for a drink.

I haven't heard of anyone being bumped in those circ's although it is possible. Even when I had DC3 by ELCS in a tiny hospital, I was the only one booked for that day so they reassured me that in case of an emergency taking priority it would just delay my operation by a few hours rather than going into the next day.

However the date for my ELCS with DC2 was changed a few weeks in advance as the consultant had annual leave booked so she brought it forward to do the op herself rather than leaving it to her registrar. The initial date had been booked at 20 weeks.

TarkaTheOtter · 27/09/2013 12:51

I had my induction delayed for three days because bloomin women kept going into labour and taking all the beds on delivery suite. Frustrating yes, but you can't really be cross that they are basing the order on medical need can you?

PlayedThePinkOboe · 27/09/2013 12:54

ELCS scheduled for the Monday (39+1) - I'm not afraid to say I spent all weekend with my legs crossed shitting myself that I'd go in to labour! Grin All passed without a hitch though.

blackteaplease · 27/09/2013 12:58

I got bumped back a day at my pre op appointment, dh rearranged teaching cover and i contacted the grandparents. Then an hour later i got a call putting it back to the original day. Very stressful at the time.

Jollyb · 27/09/2013 19:37

No. My hospital runs a separate list in a different theatre for electives.

maggiethemagpie · 27/09/2013 19:57

I had mine brought forward a few days, due to diabetic complications (my retina started to bleed at 37 weeks). They were trying to get me to 39w but I had it at 38+3.
I couldn't wait to get her out in the end so it was fine by me.

daughterofafarmer · 27/09/2013 20:28

Jolly will ask MW at new appointment. They very well might have, didn't even think of that.

maggie good lord poor you. Glad it went smoothly in the end.

Two electives here and both went ahead as planned on the day. Because they were booked a long time in advance I was first on the list each time so both out by 10am.

The hospital I went to has a dedicated elective section ward. That may have made a difference.

ZingWantsCake · 28/09/2013 01:02

DS4 being footling breech was only discovered at 36 weeks so there weren't many options for a date.

they booked me in for the Monday before EDD (38+6) and we went in all psyched up.

we waited all morning in the waiting room and at 1pm we were told to re-book date then go home - there was simply no time to fit me in and no beds as a lot of people went into labour in a short period of time, some already on the ward but needing EMCS, other emergencies brought in by ambulance and a few who arrived with baby's head practically sticking out! Grin

then I could choose any day up until EDD, so chose the Thursday. (41+2)
again I had to wait all morning - on prenatal ward this time and eventually it was our turn.
I was the last planned section that day, baby was born just before 4pm

OvO · 28/09/2013 01:23

Mine were all on the booked day.

My 3rd one was pencilled in at 4w 4d and I was expecting it to change but it did go ahead on that date!

daughterofafarmer · 28/09/2013 09:05

I saw the ELCS booking in book. I was the first entry. I guess we'll see what happens!

Out hospital schedules 2 ELCS per day in the main theatre, but there is also a theatre on the labour ward that they use for natural high risk births (eg twins).

They do the higher risk ELCS first on the day (barring emergencies), though either/both could get bumped.

I was scheduled first and wasnt bumped :) Was first section of the day, and twins were born at 10.29 and 10.30 :)

I hope it all goes smoothly for you :)

thegoldenfool · 28/09/2013 13:42

i was bumped 1 day with one day´s notice, i was doing an ELCS after previous EMCS so no urgent need so couldn´t complain - emergencies should come first!

CrispyFB · 29/09/2013 12:09

I wasn't bumped for mine, thank goodness. My brother had taken the day off work (only day he could afford to take) to look after one of the older DC, and the other one was at nursery and I know they would not have taken her on another day as they'd already refused to take the first one for that day! Childcare would have been an utter nightmare if it had been bumped.

It was also the day before the royal wedding and all the bank holidays so if we'd have been bumped, it would have been by several days. I was having it at 38+2 due to a high risk of PTL (both previous DC had been pre 37 weeks) and a previous precipitous labour. As I had a permanent stitch, going into labour could kill us both due to a ruptured uterus so I was very worried! But it was all fine, aside from them losing my bloodwork and they had to redo it so I got bumped to second rather than first on the list!
