Stitches pain

I gave birth 5 weeks ago, after a forceps delivery resulting in an episiotomy and a second degree tear.

To start with it felt like my stitches were healing and I was on the mend although now I really ache down below and am really uncomfortable. Any advice on helping things heal?! Confused

The ache can be caused by a weak pelvic floor complaining about the support work it has to do. Effective pelvic floor exercises would help in that case.

Have you been doing a bit more/been a bit more active? I remember thinking I felt a bit better so went for a long walk and I was aching for days down there afterwards. Sounds like you could do with some more rest. See your GP or midwife if it gets any worse though. Hope you feel better soon.

Agree with mayhew that doing a few pelvic floor exercises every day post birth helped me with that achy feeling. a postnatal MW advised me to do 5-10 'squeezes' after every baby feed (no reason to do with the feed: just cos it's something you do LOTS every day,and if you get into the habit of doing them then, it will make sure they get done).

After just a few days of this, that achy draggy feeling went away for me. But if your gut feelig is there's something wrong, make a GP appointment and check there's no infection or anything.

Hi OP, get your gp to check it. My stitches were healing until i got an infection, very painful and needed alot of antibiotics. Better to be safe and catch it early

Thank you all.
I'm booked in with the gp to be on the safe side x
