Morning,

So I'm booked in to be induced tomorrow morning at 8am and I'm definitely feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves.

Anyone have any positive stories of being induced? How long did it take from start to holding your baby? Any helpful tips on how to pass the time etc

My dd2 was induced and it was the easiest of my three labours Smile

Try doing a search for positive induction stories on mumsnet - I found it really helped my state of mind.

Also my nct teacher gave some really helpful advice about focusing on the things you can still control. All the breathing techniques and birthing positions you learned in ante-natal classes still apply - keep on your feel or all fours during labour (still possible even if you are on constant fetal monitoring). My midwife wanted me to lie on my back but I knew it made labour slower and more painful so ignored her!

Also take snacks, music, etc

Good luck Smile

4 inductions they varied from 36 hours to 10 hours from start to finish, all were none instrumental deliveries and pretty straighforward.

Keep on your feet I meant!

Hmm also be warned just because you're booked in for 8am nothing will happen until they have a bed and sufficient staff, twice I ended up waiting until afternoon for a bed!

Take in something to do - magazines, books etc - in case things get delayed.

With DS2, I got told to go in for induction at 9am, but because the labour ward was busy, I ended up waiting for about 12 hours before they could start doing the induction at all.

It took about 16 hours or so once things did get started though.

It took 30 hours with my first child after the first pessary but to really nothing happened until they started the drip that night and even then it took another 14 hours, ended in forceps. Honestly was not bad but was very long. Take stuff to do/read and also food (I was starving and you need energy). Make dp(or whoever is going with you) do the same. My dp and dsis (both birth partners) ended up going out about 2 am desperate to find food and to find somewhere to sit as the hospital had them sharing one small stool!! We laugh about it now but it looks like i will be induced next sat with my second and they are both packing very carefully!

Agree with others re taking stuff to do, I waited a couple of hours after arriving till I got my bed then had a bit of monitoring before the induction started, then again straight after the gel was put in. It was the second dose of gel which really kicked things off for me, but this was six hours or so after the first lot, so lots of hanging around. Hopefully everything will happen quickly for you though.

I guess you're there now so good luck!
