One of the girls on another chat site I visit recently used this and said it was really good so I'm thinking of using it myself. Wondered if any of you had used it and would recommend it?

I'm thinking of these people www.hypnobirthing.co.uk

thanks!

I used hypnobirthing for the birth of dd2 as I was very anxious following a traumatic experience when giving birth to ds1. The hypnobirthing course really helped me to relax and focus on my baby during my pregnancy. I found my experience of childbirth the second time round was very positive and two years on I look back on that day with nostalgia! I can't say it was pain free but it was so different to my previous experience, I left hospital hours after the birth,I recovered really quickly and no baby blues Hope this helps.

I used it for birth of ds2 after a very long painful labour ending in forceps and 3rd degree tear with ds1. Was money well spent and ended up having a wonderful home water birth. As mum2lovely2 said it didn't take away the pain and the sensations felt the same as in labour with ds1 but it totally alters your reaction to the pain so you are very able to cope and stops any sense of panic.
I am not planning on any more children but the birth experience was so good that I would actually love to give birth again!

Does anyone have the Rainbow Relaxation cd?

marjean · 22/08/2006 17:22

I used a hynobirthing relaxation cd from natalhypnotherapy.co.uk to prepare me for a home birth (first baby). I wasn't too strict about using it - probably about a dozen times in the weeks running up to the birth. I loved it because it made me feel I was doing something positive and proactive and it balanced out all the negative comments and horror stories that seemed to be coming at me from friends, colleagues, family and random strangers. I really have no idea if it helped at all - although the mw wouldn't come out at first because she said that I sounded far too calm to be in labour! Afterwards, both mws said it had been the most laid back first time home birth they'd been to. My labour and birth went without a hitch and the whole experience was completely fabulous. Obviously I can't put all this down to the hypno preparation but I definitely used the breathing and visualisation techniques suggested on the cd. Aside from the practical help, it really boosted my confidence and made me feel that I could actually have my baby at home. If nothing else, it's a good excuse to lie down for an hour or so! I'd recommend it - and definitely use it again if I go on to have any more children.

Yes, found hypnobirthing very helpful for birth and afterwards - hypnotherapy is a useful life skill for keeping calm too! Did a private course before first baby and still remembered enough for second 2 1/2 years later. Also had a problem convincing hospital I was in labour first time as I seemed much too calm and laid back; no pain relief for 38 hr labour with an oxytocin drip. Second labour also slow and large baby (9 lbs 9 oz) again no pain relief needed and no intervention or tears. Would love to have done a refresher course - third due 2-3 weeks and measuring big - but never seem to have the time!

marjean, that's really reassuring, that's how I'm hoping to use my CD! I have had it suggested that I might want to have one or 2 sessions with a hypnobirthing practitioner beforehand, but can't find any locally

wishingchair · 29/08/2006 11:40

I didn't but did consciously make myself relax when each contraction started and did a lot of visualisation to deal with the pain. Can honestly say the contractions I had when I tensed and didn't do the visualisation were 50% worse or more. So I'd go for it.

Hi squishy, good luck! Let us know how you get on, im thinking of using this too as feel really stressed out at thought labor second time round. Where did you get your cd from?

Morningnewspaper · 30/08/2006 22:39

My friend used this for her 3rd and said it was noticeably easier with hypnobirthing. She recommended this book - she just read this and it has the CD in the back cover:
