Mucus plug, discharge or waters breaking?

About an hour ago, i suddenly felt very wet with like a sticky discharge so went to the loo and there was so much it was running down my legs.

Cleaned up, sat back down again and after about 10 mins stood up again and same thing happened. Wondered if i was losing my mucus plug but no colour in it, just clear sticky liquid.

Lay down for a bit, this time when i got up, literally a gush of liquid came out of me and all over carpet but stopped when i lay back down again.

Now really confused if this is mucus plug coming away or could it be start of waters breaking? (but thought they would continue even when lying down if that was the case).

I am 40+4 .

Call your midwife or delivery unit. Whatever it is, you need their advice!

Best of luck!

Sounds like your waters. Call triage and put in a maternity pad. Good luck!

Thanks all, sticky discharge has become more of a clear fluid that's leaking a little bit each time i stand up so think it is waters!
Was just expecting 1 big gush not a constant leak!

Called Triage, they were reassuring and said to call back if fluid changes colour or contractions start but otherwise just to call again in the morning and if nothing has happened they will get me to examine me and book an induction within 72 hours.

Hope i can get some sleep tonight, cant believe baby may finally be on his way! Smile

Good luck! I hope it all kicks off very soon for you. Keep as relaxed as possible, stress and adrenaline can inhibit your labour starting naturally so sleep, a massage from your partner, a warm shower and feet up with a cup of tea for you.

FYI (..and probably TMI) my plug went during labour and it was a big lump of bloody jelly the size of my palm - you'd definitely know it was your plug if you saw it.

Ooh exciting and good luck. I'm 40+2 today and hoping some of this water breaking rubs off on me Thanks

Just to update:

An hour after last post on Fri, contractions started quite strongly, also lost blood and mucous plug and was in hospital within 3 hours, 5cm dilated. All seemed to be progressing quite quickly but then the baby got stuck due to his size and positioning and was eventually delivered by c-section on Sat, 9lbs, 14oz!

All well with myself and baby George and we just arrived home a couple of hours ago. Thanks for all your advice and hope you see progress soon pinkapple
