Lost all baby weight at 1 week - weird?

I gained 20lb this pg. Not much, I know. I had lost it all by day 5. This is a bit soon, don't you think? I am bfing in demand - is that the reason? Just very odd to being pg, round and uncomfortable (was all bump) this time last week to feeling slimmer than pre-preg now.

Anyone else had this?

what weight was your DC? (congrats BTW Grin)

If your baby was 8lb then the placenta would have been a similar weight and then add in water etc then that would be the "baby weight" so you may have actually gained next to nothing during pregnancy! :) i was like that but gained alot of weight after the birth of my DD as i was ravenous...

PreciousPuddleduck · 20/09/2013 14:38

Yes, don't worry, most people would be jealous! I put on 1 stone when I was pregnant. If you don't use pregnancy as an excuse to stuff yourself for 9 months then your body will go back to normal sharpish.
Enjoy your newborn & all the cuddles Xx

whilewildeisonmine · 20/09/2013 15:49

I lost all pregnancy weight and more after a week. not sure if it was bf or that most of the weight was water weight. I'm hoping for a similar experience this time round!

Hobbes8 · 20/09/2013 15:55

A lot of baby weight is extra fluid - both amniotic fluid and extra blood and stuff. This gets shed pretty quickly after the birth. It doesn't sound like you put on very much fat at all, which is the type of weight that takes longer to shift. I lost all the weight pretty much straight away, but then ate like a horse when my son was a baby and put on about a stone. Oops.

InStyle · 20/09/2013 16:12

Thanks. It's not something you can really mention in RL without looking a bit boasty. I have to say its lovely to feel so light and comfortable again. You always hear about baby weight struggles and the 9 months on 9 months off thing (which I think is rubbish actually) and there was an article in a newspaper last week with photos of women after they'd given birth, wobbly tummies and all. The headline screamed "What real women look like after childbirth".

Are we not real then???

I lost it quickly last time too but I DID put weight on gradually again when baby was about 1 and bfing had slowed right down so I'm not being glib!

Lucky you!
Would have loved that to happen, and I do know maybe one or two women who have experienced the same.
However, a comment upthread said weight would drop off if peegnancy was not an excuse to stuff yourself.
I have to stand up for the majoroty of women here.
My ds is 2.6. In the last 6 months I have got back intoy size 10 jeans and am weighing aeound 9st6. ( am almost 5.10")
I did not sruff myself during pregnancy. I could barely eat anything most of the time. My ds weighed 7.8 at birth and I had alot of water. But my "wibbly" stomach did not go back and still hasnt fully. I ebf ds and it did not help the weight to come off really. It generally is natural for it to take around 9 months to get back to normal, but in my own experience, and that of friends it has taken much longer. O think this is what the magazine was refering to as "real mums" .
Technically not correct no, as it is just a majoroty of people, not all......but rbh its nice to see aome pictures lile that as all we usually see is flat toned stomachs weeks after giving birth!

Its great that you feel comfortable and your body has sprung back. But this 9 months on 9 months off is not rubbish. Some people need morw time to heal after traumatic births or complications.

Celia1978 · 20/09/2013 16:26

Same experience here. Lost all my baby weight giving birth and then an extra stone. (Was breastfeeding too and I swear I could sometimes feel the calories burning.) But you're right - saying that pregnancy has done wonders for your figure isn't something you can really say in real life!

absentmindeddooooodles · 20/09/2013 16:26

Sorry about typos....on useless phone that likes to put strange letters in :/

ChunkyPickle · 20/09/2013 16:35

Nope - same as me (not that people have anything to be jealous of, I'm rubenesque to put it politely, I just don't put on any extra weight when pregnant)

All I gained both and this time is about the weight of the baby and extras - hence back to pre-pregnancy weight within days last time, and I can't imagine any different this time.

BFing doesn't help me lose weight at all though - I started this pregnancy the same weight as the last one, despite having been BF DS1 for the 2.5 years inbetween (and chasing him around etc.)

ZingWantsCake · 20/09/2013 16:58

so did I.
every time

but bf meant I was hungry like a wolf, ate day and night and weight crept back on.

currently I weigh the same as I did when I was 9m pg with DD ( whom I stopped bf 5 months ago). I actually lost a few pounds since!

LouiseD29 · 20/09/2013 17:17

Ooooh, well done you. I've still got two stone to go! Sad

magicberry · 20/09/2013 22:44

I saw a lady like this today. her baby must have been a week old and she looked incredible. Took me 11 months this time to get back to normal - well done you!

flippingebay · 20/09/2013 22:48

I hate you! Wink

Congratulations btw Grin

silverangel · 21/09/2013 13:08

Same here - I was actually lighter post delivery than pre pregnancy - probably because of no alcohol in pregnancy...

mummyxtwo · 22/09/2013 20:11

Pregnancies are odd how they vary from woman to woman, and for the same woman too. I gained quite a bit of weight with ds1 (not sure how much as I didn't weigh myself - didn't want to know!) and it took 10 months for the weight to come off. With dd2 I put on less than a stone and a half and fitted into my size 10 jeans a couple of days after giving birth. My stomach does feel a bit weird this time round though - I know I don't need to lose weight, as I am my usual weight, but my tummy muscles are clearly weakened as I have more of a tummy bump than I did. I keep meaning to do some sit-ups but am always too exhausted! Dd2 is 11mo now and my stomach still isn't what it was pre-pregnancy number 2 Hmm Enjoy your pinging back into shape!

RubyrooUK · 22/09/2013 20:28

Wow. Five days? I was still mega-swollen from the epidural then! Glad you are feeling so good, OP.

I don't think the 9 months on/off thing is necessarily rubbish though. I've had two babies and each time, it has taken my 9 months to hit my exact pre-baby weight which almost never varies (when not pregnant) of 8 stone.

I seem to put on weight on my bum/thighs when pregnant even with a small bump (measured 32 weeks at full term). Then it gradually melts off while eating normally. Although I go back to being pretty light in the end, it takes a good while. It tends to disappear all of a sudden several pounds at a time rather than smoothly. It's really odd - not like normal weight loss at all.

It's pretty mad how different everyone is. For example, my boobs were much much better shaped after breastfeeding DS1 for 18 months and then stopping than pre-DC. They just looked better and rounder. Now there is another thing you can't say in real life! (My thighs are another matter though. They are shit now.)

duchesse · 22/09/2013 20:44

Nah, it's fine. Happened to me each time. In fact since I started my last pregnancy 2 stone overweight, I found I weighed 5 kg less than pre-pregnancy as soon as she was born. Sadly it all crept back on again within a year. Damn my stupid metabolism!

Strokethefurrywall · 24/09/2013 02:20

Happened to me too. Only gained 20lbs in 1st pregnancy, had lost it all by my first OBGYN check the following week, and continued to lose with all the breastfeeding.

Am 13 weeks with no. 2 and hoping this one goes roughly the same way but this time I'm definitely chowing on more chocolate digestives so perhaps not!

HappyAsASandboy · 24/09/2013 03:15

I did. I put on 13kg when pregnant with my twins, and lost it all when I delivered them. I felt like I was losing weight during pregnancy, regardless of what I ate, as my arms, legs and face got slimmer.

Although I lost the weight, I did keep the mummy tummy though. I was the same weight, but a completely different shape :(

C0smos · 24/09/2013 09:33

Not me, my DD weighed 2.7kg, weighed myself the next day and I'd only lost 2kg!! So clealy giving birth made me put on weight.

Only 10kg to go then.....

Ihavethislittlesister · 24/09/2013 09:50

I lost all mine then put in back on as breastfeeding established. I obviously wasnt fat enough to feed a large demanding baby! It might go back on if you are feeding and quite slim

A friend lost weight very quickly after birth. She didn't look great, if I'm honest. She looked gaunt. I think that she was forgetting to eat because of lack of sleep.

Make sure you're eating! And if you are, then feel blessed. 18 months later, and I'm still struggling. But then I did gain 3 stone!!

krankykitty · 26/09/2013 14:08

I was lighter a couple of days after birth than I started out pre pregnancy, but I still have the jelly tummy. So although I lost weight, my shape changed.

PurpleFairy3 · 28/09/2013 16:50

I lost all mine very quickly. I am naturally petite though and didn't get bigger anywhere at all apart from the belly. I have horrendous stretch marks, though, so it's not all great! Wink
