How much "grooming" do you do down there?

That's it really. Coming up to 3rd trimester and a few friends are taking about booking waxes etc before d-day...I've never had one and really would rather not. So if its not TMI...how do you 'present yourself' in labour?!
Thanks! Blush

I did nothing. Honestly, the state of your pubes will be the last thing on your mind!

Only exception could be if you needed an emcs for any reason, in which case the midwife will give you a shave at the top part of your lady garden, just to allow clear access to your abdomen for the surgeon. The mw told me that even if someone has waxed everything off, there'll almost always be regrowth which needs shaving off for an emcs, which can be sore if it's really short hair, so it's best not to do anything at all.

DropYourSword · 20/09/2013 07:40

You shouldn't be expected to do anything and there's no need to wax / shave etc. But it IS a really good idea to just have a trim so the hair is short. It really helps midwives to see what they need to see, and if you have a tear or episiotomy that needs suturing, having short pubic hair makes it much easier, for a better outcome.

I just gave it a trim (probably very wonky as I couldn't see obviously! ).

Cesca1983 · 20/09/2013 09:14

Whatever you feel comfortable with as they have seen it all and won't bat an eyelid either way. Unless you get a vajazzle! ??

bluebeanie · 20/09/2013 09:36

I'm due to drop any day now. Pre pregnancy I used Veet, now I ask my dh to help a bit with the gardening via shaving. Bless him. I can't see anythingGrin Grin

Wuxiapian · 20/09/2013 09:38

Just a bit of a (probably uneven) trim.

Bunnylion · 20/09/2013 15:02

Husbands beard trimmers a few days before Grin

I didn't - and you really shouldn't - care at all how you look, but a trim helped me keep clean with the bleeding after. I had a couple of stitches and it was probably easier for the midwife to do them without a lot of hair in the way.

LouiseD29 · 20/09/2013 17:22

I had a trim with the aid of a mirror - quite challenging! Didn't bother with a wax. Really must think about getting one now, a month on...

star15 · 20/09/2013 18:03

Trust me you won't care I could of had the whole world in my delivery and not been bothered who seen, as long as they baby was out. X

elcranko · 20/09/2013 20:13

I veeted just before I went in for my induction, however it was a few days before the baby was born so I probably had a bit of regrowth in that time but I can't even remember because you honestly won't care at all once you're in labour. I didn't do mine for anyone else's benefit though, I just always have so it was normal to me to carry on throughout pregnancy and it did help me with feeling cleaner and fresher when bleeding afterwards.

Bumpsadaisie · 20/09/2013 21:04

Are these friends of yours expecting their first babies?

knittingirl · 21/09/2013 16:00

I was the other way, always had a bikini waxes and carried on throughout pg until about 33/34 weeks when i decided I just couldn't be bothered. Now about 3 weeks postpartum and thinking I might book one for a month or twos time but not in any rush. In the delivery room it was seriously the last thing on my mind!

Cesca1983 · 21/09/2013 16:36

Since the preg stick came up positive i've just let down there become like some overgrown untended jungle-like garden. Feel sorry for my hubby! I just let myself go in pregnancy and am au natural! I'm sure first preg I was always well groomed but really who can be bothered?!

LostMarbles99 · 21/09/2013 21:09

Had a Brazilian a week before my csection.

Greenwichgirl25 · 24/09/2013 21:18

I have always had brazillian waxes, so I got mine done the day before my induction. Like the others have said, there is no expectation from medical staff, but for some reason, personal grooming (hair/make up etc) became more important to me in pregnancy!! Looking good on the outside really did help me feel better through the bad parts of pregnancy!

PoppyAmex · 24/09/2013 21:29

Always had waxing and kept having them.

First time a week before my section (couldn't bare to shave and didn't fancy re growth on top of stitches)

I also think it's easier to keep clean and dry without hair and since I'm having another section, the risk of infection is always on my mind.

This time had a Brazilian a few weeks ago and will have another just before birth.

PastaBeeandCheese · 25/09/2013 07:34

You'll get loads of people on here telling you it's not necessary which is true unless it's necessary to you.

It was for me so I had my usual high bikini wax. Made me feel happier and that's all that matters when all is said and done.

MummyJetsetter · 25/09/2013 16:10

I use veet, always do and you can apply it stood looking in a mirror seeing as you can't bend down to see what you're doing! x
