Due today - high fluid but no scan appointments

I have had two growth scans and have been monitored twice for reduced movement. I'm carrying a large baby (9lb+ with a big head) and excess amniotic fluid. No GD.

I am supposed to have had an urgent ultrasound today (40w) but the antenatal clinic has no appointments for 7 days. I have had two sweeps that haven't worked so induction has been mentioned for 40+7 or 40+14.

Every day I am getting more and more scared of delivering this 'giant baby'. I am depressed, anxious and petrified that he'll suffer a cord prolapse if my waters go.

Does anyone have an experience of big babies and excess fluid?
Is it worth paying for a private scan?
Should I be making more of a fuss to get seen sooner?

Apologies if this post is a little frantic. I feel totally unsupported by the antenatal clinic who said they'd seen my scan referral and filed it without ringing me as there was nothing they could do Sad

This calls for someone above the level of the antenatal clinic clerk. I would contact either
: the head of midwifery
:The Supervisor of midwives

Go through the hospital switchboard, one of them will be available. Rehearse your speech first. Have another supportive adult with you so that they can speak for you if you suddenly feel too hormonal or emotional.

They should be able to organise an urgent review of your care and/or urgent scan.

Hi, I had a big baby 9lb 8oz, I didn't know she was going to be this big until she came out, my placenta was also very big and when my waters broke it was like someone pored a couple of buckets of water over the floor so I guess that's a lot. I didn't have any extra monitoring and everything was still ok. That being said if I where you I would do as the post above says and press them for answers and action as too busy just isn't good enough. Sorry I'm not much help just didn't want to read and run, good luck xx

Thanks both for your supportive replies.

In the end I pressed for extra monitoring yesterday. I went in and wasted an hour laid on a bed as there were no machines. In the end the consultant suggested that I should be induced tomorrow. Due to the risk of prolapse I agreed.

I agree it's not acceptable, though. I guess this is just the way the NHS is at the moment. I've had a terrible experience with the antenatal clinic and it's difficult not to get frustrated with the staff as I'm sure they're just working with the few resources they have.
