My neighbour has had her dd yesterday at 12 wks premature and 1lb 10 oz.

I can't stop thinking of them and looking for tips from anyone with similar experience to pass on to them.

I am awake at this ungodly hour because dh came home from the pub 2 hrs ago and told me.

I can't imagine how she must feel! I am 28 weeks (so if my bubs was born now mine would be 12 weeks early) It would break my heart.
I would guess she has a lot of flowers being sent in. Maybe get her something nice and pampering, like a beautiful shower gel/bath stuff etc...
I hope her and baby Amber are doing well. Goodluck with her breast feeding! I hope that she can find a supportive mw in the hospital as I would imagine it is hard work for her being in special care.
She sounds like she is doing well and as crap as the NHS can be they can perform near on miracles.
Good luck to her and her little bubba!

you may have misinterpreted my post PeachyChair: i rolled my eyes because with the best intentions in mind, bf is not the most natural thing in the world even with a full term baby as mum and baby have to learn a technique. with a scbu baby, it is even less 'natural' as 28wk old babies died if Nature was to take its course. The rellies may want to give her less to worry about but perpetuating a myth does no good. it just creates false hopes when a sensitive, informed person (um not necessarily me) ought to be providing the right information.

i also just found out that baby Amber underwent an op last night to repair a perforated bowel. she is pulling thru it fine but dm had to be given sedation last night as it was sending her bp up. keep the prayers coming.

Oh I know that kiski, I was just pointing out the alternativve scenario to what she could have said. At least she was trying to be supportive of BF, which is a big plus!

Havent read whole thread just first post.

DS1's friend at nursery has a little brother who was born at 26 weeks and he turned 1 this weekend. He is fab!

He is obviosuly small for his age and is about 2-3 months behind dvelopmentally but is otherwise absolutely fine! He is crawling. pointing, enjoying solid food.

Hope everything goes ok for them

CaptainDippy · 25/06/2006 08:46

Oh poor little mite having to have an operation on top of everything. I hope she pulls through ok - Following this thread avidly and sending up lots of prayers - will link to the Christian Prayer Request Thread, if that is ok!!?

WellKnownMemorablePeachyClair · 25/06/2006 23:03

Hope she's OK.

Sending thoughts and prayers. My friend had a baby at 26 weeks ... 1lb 14oz ... and she is now nearly 2 and perfect.

It was hard though ... some 3 months in hospital and a lot of panics along the way. But these little ones have very strong spirits x

Kiskidee
Just reading this thread, & was wondering/hoping all is OK.
my ds2 was born at 28wks & it is so tough having a baby in scbu, he is 3 now & does have some long term problems but has done amazingly well.
A baby ds2 was in scbu with also had a perforated bowel & had a stoma for 6 months & then reversed & is now a fit healthy 3 year old with no problems,
Keeping everything crossed for your friend!

i saw my neighbour on Sat morning. she says that she will be in the unit in the larger hospital for this week and if she continues to improve will be moved back closer to home. it sounds like things are going well. will have more info by thursday night.

update: little Amber is now 4 cm longer! she is being fed 2mls of ebm per day and everyday they are increasing the ebm and decreasing the drip. she has had a few poos now and everyone is overjoyed at the sight of poo.

hopefully next week she is more local so less of a hassle for parents (and me) to visit.

touching story: when her dp heard at work that his dd would arrive in the hour, he raced to his boss, tears streaming down his face, saying he had to go now. he looks a bit like the brother of a hairy arsed trucker to use the MN euphemism.

Hiya
Havent read it all, but just wanted to say that a good mate of mine had her ds at 28weeks, and he is getting by really really well. He is now 3months old (since his due day anyway), and hes perfect.

My bub was born 10wks prem. 3lb. it is very scary to see such a tiny angel fighting for life. But it is amazing what hospital, reiki and prays can do. Never give up no matter what happens. My bub is now 8.5 months & is feisty & very happy. My heart goes out to anyone go thru a prem birth.
