Confused and in need of advice

Hi MN'ers!
Looking for some advice / help...
I'm 36 weeks and was in triage yesterday with painful tightenings. Was on the monitor and they decided to do cervical exam and found me to be 1cm.
They advised early labour. Since I've got home had some brown discharge... Anyone had similar experience? Wondering if it means something might happen soon or am I in for a good long wait? Xx

hi, discharge could be the cervical mucus (plug) or just a bit of blood from the examination.

tightenings - Braxton Hicks are practice contractions - shouldn't be painful, but you'd feel your whole stomach going rock hard.

labour pains are like period pains, felt in the same place as them - put your hand just under your belly. there. cramps and churning type feeling that comes out of nowehere, gets stronger (peaks) then goes away.

time these - write down as time of day as soon as you feel it coming, also how long it lasted.

advised early labour? as in told you that you should have baby early or that you might have baby early?

Thanks for the reply Smile
I'm afraid I was in a bit of a panic when typing original post.
I should mention that I'm 36 weeks and they had advised early stage of slow labour! I'm really sorry I didn't make that clear in original post.
I've been monitored on the machine that they use for contractions and baby heart rate. Both really good results; nice moderate contractions and good response from baby.
Since then I've had what I think must be the show and more contractions.
Do you think this means something might be happening soon or am I still in for a long wait? X

I think once you've had your show (jelly like, sometimes blood-stained, mucus) then it won't be too long before things start to happen.

The longest I've heard of was roughly a week from the show to delivery.

Good luck Smile

how are things today Nelly?

Please update when you can!

Hi everyone, thanks for replies.
Sorry to have wasted your time, we didn't make it to the class as I've been up most of the night with some strong contractions. Nothing worth rushing to hospital with but. Had me weeping in the bath Confused
Also I've had all the coedine I'm allowed for the day so might get interesting later if it continues.
I'm really hoping the labour won't stop.

try to eat and sleep, you need the energy!

if you are tired labour might slow down or stop.
