Recommendations for a preemie book

Hi ladies

Currently sitting in hospital at 34+2 with suspected placental abruption and facing prospect of meeting baby earlier than expected. Does anyone have any recommendations for good preemie books to read? Wasn't quite expecting things to turn out this way so trying to make good use of time in hospital to swot up in case.

Thanks all

I found this really useful when DD was born prematurely at 29 weeks.

The SCBU unit had a Bliss handbook and lots of leaflets, and all the nurses were a great source of help and information. Do ask to have a look around the SCBU in advance of your baby being born - it helps to be an observer before your baby might be there. Hope all goes well.
P.S. My DD is now 8, and absolutely fine - happy and healthy! Smile

Thanks ladies (lunatic so sorry to hear about your experience first time round). Currently sitting it out still in hospital. Placenta seems ok but the doctors have no idea what's making me bleed so much so think I'm stuck here until it stops, whenever that will be. Will make use of the suggestions of reading in the meantime. Thank you!

Legal the same thing happened to me - admitted at 29 weeks with recurrent heavy bleeding, no indication of why. They never did find out! DS born naturally at 31+5 and is now a very boisterous 16mo.

The Tommy's book was of most help to me, I think. Our consultant neonatologist was even quoted in there! I liked this one too.

The SCBU experience can be very different depending on your situation - with almost 32 weeker DS in for just over 2 weeks, we had a very different experience to my friend whose DD was born 9 days earlier at 24+5.

Can you ask to visit the neonatal ward?

The premature birth board on here is very good too.

Wishing you all the best Thanks

I had an abruption and EMCS at 31+2 with DTs (all fine now!), no books to reccommend but the BLISS website is great if you have access from hospital.

At 34+2 and with steroids you will, hopefully, avoid NICU and maybe even SCBU altogether.

Wishing you well x
