Hi.

37+5 and my waters started leaking in night. Been to hospital this morning and told to stay active. Trying to do this, hence the hoovering, but no contractions yet. Have tens on low.

anything else I can do to speed it up (if nothing doing all this coming night I have to go in to be speeded up tomorrow a.m)

Thanks

I was advised to not have a bath or sex (DH looked a bit aghast at that idea, I was overdue and looked like a whale wrapped in a road map of stretch marks!)

Has a mw been out to see you? I had my temp taken and was checked at home to make sure all was well. Good luck!

go to bed as normal. labour tends to kick in when the body is at rest. that is if you're not in full swing already.

looking fwd to your news! good luck.

I believe they advise you not to have sex if your waters have gone because of the risk of infection. Cleaning is good, do you have a birthing ball to bounce on? Or walk up and down the stairs a few times :)

just realised this post is from yesterday so you're probably already in hospital! Good luck :)

I love that no-sex advice. Who in their right minds feels like a quickie when their waters have broken Confused

disclaimer: I'm sure there are people who will have sex under almost any circumstances. It's just mind boggling to me

Gerty1002 · 03/09/2013 13:12

I'm with you Laundry, it would be the last thing on my mind, but felt the need to share it as a previous poster advised sex and didn't want OP putting baby in danger :).

Gerty1002 · 03/09/2013 13:13

oh! Just realised aforementioned previous poster said NOT to have sex! That makes much more sense! Silly me :)

mummratheevertired · 03/09/2013 16:58

When my waters web my midwife told me to go home an HAVE sex. Thankfully I was clearly more clue up than her and knew the risks.

tbh I wouldn't stay active.

An active birth doesn't mean BE active. It means being an active participant, and that in terms of getting the right hormones going often means having a rest. Dark can help and also these things:

Having a sensual massage
Sitting on the loo, or backwards on a chair reading an erotic novel
Eating dates
If you feel lively you can walk up and down the stairs sideways to 'shake the head down to put pressure on your cervix'.

Lie in fresh clean sheets and visualise all things that make you go 'Mmmmm'. Sex, carrot cake, lying on warm sand on the beach, a bottle of beer after a long day, etc etc.
