Its my first so no idea if my plans will work out, but I lost 38kg in the yr before I got pregnant (calorie counting) so I'm keen to get back down to where I was.

I assume 3 months is beacsue its a c section?
I'm hoping to breast feed though so just planning to try to stop buying cakes/sweets in the first instance, and try to get back to 'normal' sized meals (OH cooks so hopefully the bb won't throw off our meals too much).

After a couple of months, take stock of where I am, and try to get back into walking everyday/exercising around the house - I found using a heart rate monitor really helpful last time as that way you don't have to do any special exercise and can just clean, jog in front of the TV etc and see how many calories you've burned. Leslie sanson walk at home DVD's are good - 12min blocks of exercise and burns more cals than you would expect, I think a nice starting point after a baby.

purplemurple1 · 30/08/2013 06:58

Soory should have said - don't crash diet, when I say I calorie counted I only went for a 500 cal deficiet, and if your breast feeding you'll get that from feeding so should eat the cals you need to maintain your weight and let the bf make the deficeit if you see what I mean.
eating to little will just make your body hold on to what you have, which is very frustrating!

JanePlanet · 30/08/2013 06:59

I am going to re-join slimming world when ds2 is 6 weeks old. I'll be bfing but they accommodate that. Worked for me before. Can eat as much as you like and still lose weight.

Mitch03 · 30/08/2013 12:09

Your body needs time to recover from labor and delivery. Give yourself until your six-week postpartum checkup before you start watching your calorie intake and actively trying to slim down. And if you're breastfeeding, experts recommend that you wait until your baby is at least 2 months old before you try to lose weight. Starting a diet too soon after giving birth can delay your recovery and make you feel more tired and you need all the energy you can muster to adjust to life with your newborn. In addition, if you're nursing, dieting can affect your milk supply. If you're patient and give your body a chance to do its work, you may be surprised at how much weight you lose naturally, especially if you're breastfeeding. There's is a chance if you start dieting after you gave birth well maybe your immune system will became low and you'll be spend a lot of money for your recovery so wait for the perfect time.

I am determined not to care until after Christmas (baby due end sept). BUT I am determined to do a buggy walk out every day as a starting point.

princesscupcakemummyb · 30/08/2013 14:28

i never worried about the weight lose after dc1 and dc2 how ever i never watched what i eat either so i gained more even know i breastfed both times Shock i only started to excercise and watch calories over a year after my second daughter was born this time with dc3 ive been careful with weight gain during pregnancy i lost a ton before i got pregnant this time i intend to watch the calories and excercise as soon as its safe after birth i intend to try one of post natal girdles after birth its ment to help everything go back easier Smile

bonzo77 · 30/08/2013 14:37

I think it depends on if you are breast feeding. Either way, wait till your 6 week check before getting on the scales, let alone dieting. Then I'd probably want to do it with some support, maybe WW or SW, because of other health issues. I hate going hungry, which is an inevitable part of dieting, at least some of the time, and its even worse when you are sleep deprived too. I have always ended up gaining a little more after having the baby (after the initial big loss from baby + placenta + fluids).

Regarding dieting post CS, I think it makes little difference as compared to a VB (I've only had CS's so not really qualified to comment). Either way you need to heal and recuperate. Exercise I suppose is harder after a CS, but who has the time or inclination with a new born anyway?!

carrielou2007 · 31/08/2013 22:59

I'm normally a size 12 sometimes down to a 10 I cut back if j edge up to a 14. After dc1 weight fell off went to size 10 and back to 12 when finished bf. didn't lose a sodding pound after dc2 so joined slimming world (only place supported BG midwives if something if bf) lost all the weight easily. Put on 5 stone Smile this time from bring total glutton/pig. Had EMCS this time (never had c section before) joined SW when dc3 was 2 weeks old he was 4 months on weds and I am 4 stone lighter a stone to go Grin oh and Exbf. Remember SW is not a diet it is just sensible eating!!

PastaBeeandCheese · 01/09/2013 08:33

My GP gave me a piece of advice at my 6 week check that really worked. I had lost all the water, extra blood and obviously the baby itself by that point and had a stone to lose.

He suggested just not eating any additional calories to account for breastfeeding and stick to 2000 calories a day which is loads of food but won't compromise your milk supply. Obvious when you think about it but I hadn't ever thought of it that was and was convinced I needed a 'proper' weight loss plan.

Worked a treat and stone came off quickly with very little effort.

Monka · 03/09/2013 22:25

Everyone is different. I had an EMCS 12 days ago and have already lost 1 stone and only have ten pounds to go to my usual weight. My uterus has contracted lots thanks to breastfeeding and hardly shows. Not dieting or exercising but trying to eat healthily to give my body plenty of nutrients to recover. Have healed well so that has really helped. Won't exercise until 6 weeks though. But I am lucky it's my first baby and was very active even though I am in my late thirties.

Billy11 · 04/09/2013 23:31

My breasts are just for show. Both times they didnt produce more than colostrum. So mainly bottle feeding for me. I have decided to just be careful with suger and oily stuff. That should cut out some calories. Will watch the carbs. But in january will low calorie it with an eye on my carbs. Too many people putting the weight back on and more after crash diets cuz their metabulism just slows down. Got my fitness pal on my phone. Programming my 5 meals a week now

If you've got a family history of diabetes then low carb would be a good option. I have gd this pregnancy and have so far lost a stone in the last month or so because of the low carb diet. Obv that's not great whilst pregnant but goes to show how effective it can be.

I'm slowly cutt

Rollermum · 18/11/2013 21:02

Damn phone!

I'm slowly going paleo - which I have found useful before particularly as I have an under active thyroid and tend to be intolerant to dairy and gluten.

Am doing it slowly so as not to affect milk supply. So for a fortnight I just dropped dairy, last week dropped bread and pasta, this week it is all other gluten. I'm not going to be super strict but Whole 30 is a good place to start if any

Rollermum · 18/11/2013 21:03

...one is interested. Well Fed and Well aged 2 are amazing cookbooks for paleo people including great batch cooking.

MyMILisfromHELL · 18/11/2013 21:08

I found I was back to my pre baby weight at 8 months. The longer you bf, the more weight you lose IME. The more you exercise too (I literally power walk everywhere) the quicker your excess weight will fall off. Still bf at 18 months & ds is a beefy boy & I am at my desired weight, shape & fitness.

bunnymother · 18/11/2013 21:12

I lost my post twin baby weight by doing Dukan, which I started when they were 3 months' old. I wasn't breast feeding, though. The Dukan isn't the best fun you'll ever have but it is effective.
