Pale, gritty placenta?

Something that has stuck with me from my notes is that it mentions my placenta was very pale and gritty. I have googled and if I understand correctly I found it happens to smokers or people who are very overdue, and is basically the placenta failing.

I don't smoke and DD was born by induction & EMCS at 36+5.

Is there anything else that can cause it? And what does it mean long-term for my baby? Will she have been affected by this?

it can happen if you have Hughes Syndrome or a range of other clotting disorders. micro clots basically fill the tiny blood vessels and reduce blood flow and the effectiveness of the placenta.

if I was you I would get tested for antiphospholipid syndrome. it may effect your next pregnancy.

That's interesting about clotting disorders, my blood tests had to be taken several times because they clotted.
