Hello all

I'm due to have an ELCS at Barnet in October following an EMCS there with DD. Im trying to find some info on the logistics as although antenatal care has been good they won't give me any sensible info until appt the week before!

So, I'd be v grateful if anyone can answer the following:

  • what time did you have to arrive on the morning of the c-section?
  • for postnatal care were you in a bay or a room?
  • (importantly!) did you have to shave pre-op??

TIA! Smile

I had an elective c section at Barnet 2 years ago.

I had to be in at 8 am where I was taken straight through to a small ward with only 4 beds, there was one other lady in there and we were all curtained off. I had a lovely midwife who talked me through everything and helped me fill in the permission forms.

I didn't shave and they didn't shave me but I had a quick trim the day before I went in.

I went down to theatre at about 8.45 and DD2 was born at 10.23. It was very relaxed, the surgeon was talking about the football etc. It was a lovely peaceful experience.

Afterwards I went up to recovery (4 beds) where I stayed for a few hours and then I was taken to the ward. I had her Monday morning and was out Wednesday morning.

No complaints at all about care during the whole process, I felt well looked after, much more so than when I had EMCS at Watford 3 years prior.

Am happy to answer any other questions - good luck!

Also, Barnet have a policy of keeping you on the ward (8 beds) after c section, if all well you are moved to a private room for your 2nd night if available.

Thank you so much! Not sure why but it's suddenly the logistics that seem important to me! With DD it was all very quick and I had to have GA so feels v nice to be slightly more aware of things this time

Hey I'm also due to have my ELCS in October, I've been given a date so I'm due to go in on the 3rd. I have an appointment next week and im hoping they will go through the time, what I will expect to happen and any question I have. Everything has changed in Barnet as the work is on going. And hoping that the care will be good, i've spent a few nights on Victora Wards and the Midwifes are lovely.

My "booking in" appt is later than yours I think...will be good to get some info! I havent been in Victoria Ward since having DD so good to hear positives!

Hi Guys..

Sorry to jump on this quite late. I've had terrible anxiety/psychological issues with this pregnancy. I was advised by my therapist to ask for an elective CS.

Do I speak to the consultant? I was assigned a lovely midwife from the Acacia team at Barnet (mental health for pregnant ladies department) but she seems powerless.

A bit of advise on the right direction would be great.

thank you
xxx
