is it acceptable for people to talk on the phone this late? will it go on all night? am I rude if I ask nurses to ask them to stop in a bit?

I'm not loving this!

Post natal ward is hell on earth. It will prob go all night, sorry. I assume you didn't pack earplugs? You could mention to the staff but once one woman stops, another will start, a baby or two will start screaming. Just count down the hours til you can go home! Oh an congrats on your new baby, what did you have?

newbiefrugalgal · 21/08/2013 23:25

Post natal sucks-both times!

Crowded rooms (4) arriving all times (ok that can't be helped!)
Just outside nurses station-all new arrivals!
In the Morning table in our room used by staff-no idea how our nights were. Why do we all need to be woken at the crack if dawn.
CS recovery so a longer stay.
Make it as short and sweet as possible.
Love the NHS by the way!

only did it once and it nearly killed me. PN ward at St Thomas xmas 2004 - literally Hell on Earth. The second worse experience of my life. Next 2 nothing could make me stay and I was in and out in 4 hours! Anyway, not much help to you, just that it could get a lot, lot worse so I would try and get some sleep before it gets any nosier. Then leave tommorrow if you possibly can :). Congratulations, will all be worth it when you get home.

It will go on all.night, sorry. Friends and family in different timezones.

poocatcherchampion · 21/08/2013 23:42

OK I'll sucl it up. I don't mind people chattering to babies etc that's par for the course but 2 people have been on the phone for over an hour each ona and that's annoying!

yes I do have earplugs. clearly need an upgrade.

cs but I'll be doing my damndest for a discharge tomorrow. I can walk luckily.
and on a more positive note a lovely little girl with no name who was 6 14 three weeks early and is just the cutest! snugginh on my chest as recommended by the lovely midwives..

thanks for the congrafs!

Congratulations again :-)

This is the start of many interrupted nights' sleep.
Just look at your daughter and think about how lucky you are.

All best wishes for the future and a decent nights sleep at some point.

It's shit isn't it? But baby snuggles are the best Smile

I spent a night on a children's ward with ds1 a few months ago and that was also hell. Playstations, iPads and whatever till gone midnight and then obviously the usual night noises (beeps, cries, alarms, checks, one particular dad snoring his head off) until dawn. I've never been so glad to get home... I felt so bad for the child and mum across from us who'd been in for over a fortnight Sad.

LifeIsNow · 22/08/2013 06:20

I feel your pain literally and metaphorically! I am still on hospital having had ds on Monday but hope to be going home today. Ds was born by c.section and we have been in longer than i'd hoped as I haven't been rested enough!!!! Impossible on a maternity ward!!! The midwives even got uppity with me!!!! What with checks, bounty, sales people, cleaners, other mum nd babies, alarms, phones etc getting to grips with breastfeeding etc rest is impossible but they wouldn't let me home yet as ee also have a 2 year old to contend with when we do. Hospitals are crazy noisy....

poocatcherchampion · 22/08/2013 08:37

well it did improve a little and I put my headphones in with some music so that helped. I don't mind the noise as such just the all night phone calls

one more night to go then back to dd and the nice chaos at home!
