Concerned about keliod scarring on c-section scar, any private dermatatologist recommendations?

Am a 33 year old white female and have had a keloid scar on my shoulder appear after having a cyst removed by my GP - its still there after 2 years and still itching. I am about to have an elective C Section (breech baby that is not turning) and I am really concerned about the possibility of having a keloid appear on my c-section scar and living with a red, itching scar. I have seen my consultant at the hospital and discussed my concerns, and they say it may or may not happen, they don't know and can't really advise on any surgical approaches to mimimise the risk of such scarring or minimise the keloid. I have 2 weeks before my section and am keen to see a private dermatologist consultant to get some further advice on if this might happen to me ( I hear the skin on your tummy / bikini area might react differently to the skin on your shoulder) and how, if at all, I can request my incision/ stitches be done to minimise scarring of this kind?

Can anyone recommend a London based clinic or specialist consultant who could advise on this area? Has anyone had advice privately on this sort of question? just before I play google roulette with my bikini line....

Hi - i had a keloid scar on my ear from a home piercing attempt aged 17. It eventually has shrunk and is now almost invisible. I had a CS 5 years ago and did not have any keloid growth there, I think it really depends on the type of skin that is scarred, if it is tougher and more cartilagenous (like the ear) that is more likely to develop a keloid. I also had a benign tumour of a vein removed from the side of my face two years ago (which developed post-pg due to the hormones) and the cosmetic surgeon gave me some post operation sillicon gel called 'dermatix'. This sealed the top of the incision and prevented any raising or a keloid developing. If I have another CS I will definitely use it on the incision just in case.

I can't advise any London clinics but probably most cosmetic surgeons would be able to advise you and prescribe the dermatix or something similar. The obstetrician stitching you up post CS will no doubt be trying to do it as neatly as possible anyway so perhaps it is more the post-incision care you need to special treatment for.

Good luck!

I have a not lovely c section scar and am thinking about getting these if I have another www.cpanty.co.uk

Absolutely no idea what they're like but I know silicon is supposed to help scars heal. I also think electives heal better as generally smaller, more controlled, incisions (mine was emergency). Good luck and if you try them please feed back!

Sorry just read title properly!no private recs but I think fairy is right in that most private dermatologists would prescribe something.
