I found this while looking for info on delayed cord clamping in c-sections and thought people might be interested. I imagine the parents paid a lot of money for this birth, but I don't see why, in principle, some of the practices couldn't be performed in a usual NHS c sect? Video here

That was really nice!! Things like placing the ECG electrodes not in the chest just seemed really obvious. Other than the actual slow delivery and dropping if the screen I don't see why that can't be done in an nhs elcs

TheOrchardKeeper · 20/08/2013 08:37

That made me a bit tearful!

Interesting...Thanks for posting this.

It made me a bit tearful, too. I'm slowly trying to get my head around the fact that it is almost inevitable I will have to have an ELCS. The more I think about it, the more upsetting I find it. But this helped a bit :)

TheOrchardKeeper · 20/08/2013 12:14

I'd have to have an ELCS with any future kids so watching this was quite emotional!

It looked so much calmer than a lot of births Smile

I agree it was a lovely calm birth. No reason why some of these approaches can't be discussed beforehand. I even found a birth story from a woman who had an ELCS lotus birth - amazing!

I had an emergency LSCS with my first and then had to have an elective LSCS with my second and my consultant offered many of the elements as on that video. (It wasNHS) I had no drapes up, they helped the head out then then let the uterine contractions push the baby out of me and the anaesthetist held my head up so I could see the whole thing, it was amazing to watch. I then had skin to skin contact. My husband cut the cord, but I'm don't think we did delayed cord clamping. All in all a very positive experience esp. when there is no alternative to LSCS. I would recommend it IMHO Smile
More women should be asking obstetricians for this if they are facing an LSCS, it doesn't hurt to ask and push boundaries.

TobyLerone · 20/08/2013 15:33

I will ask my consultant about some of these things. I will probably start a thread nearer the time to get ideas for questions to ask.

Great, TobyLerone - will you post and say how you got on?

Yes, and there will be a post in a couple of months begging for help with what to ask my consultant.

I'm only 20 weeks (scan today, eek!) but my MW has already made it clear that due to some decent-sized fibroids (which are still growing), one of which is directly over my cervix, my lovely calm HB is out and an ELCS will likely be in.

Thanks so much for posting this. It's really made me feel a bit less sad! :)
