stitches?

I had stitches after giving birth to my son nine years ago(not in perenium but outer labia,sorry if too much info).
for many reasons it was a bit traumatic and i don't want a repeat experience!
im pregnant with my second and wondering if its likely that I will need stitches again this time round?

If you managed to give birth without perineal stitches the first time, there is a good chance you will avoid them again.

Labial stitches are less common. As a mw I only stitch the labia if it looks like they might heal awkwardly. They are usually caused by the baby coming out with a hand by the head, not within your, or the midwife's control.

yes my son was born with his arm behind his head(ifI remember rightly!)
its strange because I seem to remember more about the stitches than the actual birth as the experience was quite horrid!
I was stitched by a registrar who did them wrong.
she had to take them out and start again so it dragged on for over an hour.
she hardly said a word or looked at me and was very cold and rude despite me telling her that I could still feel quite a bit of pain.
im thankful that I didn't have to have them in my perenium!

I had an episiotomy first time round (and stitches burst afterwards - not nice!). Convinced I would tear second time round due to weakness in that area, but only had a few scratches so didn't need any. Result!

I had an episiotomy for DC1 and lots of stitches - not sure how many. Only 3 stitches for DC2 and none for DC3. Good luck!

I tore and had stitches with DC1 and had none with DC2.

How big was your baby? Sometimes large baby's with good sized heads are more likely to cause labial tears IMO

he was only six,fourteen so not big at all.
