40+7 for elective section instead of vbac.... is this not a bit soon?

That is what consultant (registrar actually) wanted to book me in for today. I am 40+3 at the moment. I went into spontaneous labour with dd at 41+3 last time and she wasn't post mature - it did end up as emergency c-section but only coz of undiagnosed breech.

oh have got me feathers all ruffled now, was quite enjoying the relaxation of the waiting game but now I feel a bit flat about the whole thing.

am sure I will regret wanting a vbac anyway when am screaming in pain with forceps and episiotomies and whatever other evil instruments of torture turn up

Don't most "planned" sections get done around 38 weeks? Maybe there is a medical reason for not doing them too late...I'm sure someone else will have a better idea than me...

flum i had emergency c/s first time and booked myself in for an induction 40 + 12..ended up with a crash c/s...because hadn't had epidural was unconscious for the delivery, which wasn't nice. the thing was, I didn't want a long, painful (in my case vomiting) labour and then a c/s..either was just about acceptable, but NO to both. we put a 6 hr limit on trial of labour, i think if you end up being part of the decision making process it somehow feels better. hth and things start happening soon! x

Thanks all.

I'm not even that sure I desperatly want a vbac but I feel that I should try as I had such an odd experience last time I'm not even sure what it will be like.

I don't want horrible labour followed by horrible birth or c-section. Praps should just ask for c-section NOW and be done with it!!

that's how i felt flum, my consultant suggested vbac because it was technically the safest way, but I insisted I didn't want both. but i was never raving for a vbac, oh no. tbh i got over my 2nd c/s quicker than the first. what was odd about yours?

Flum · 14/06/2006 17:48

It was just odd as waters broke then no labour for like a day. Then labour kicked in and it was so full on I don't really remember what it was like. I think I have blocked it out. I was just screaming to be put out of my misery 'Kill me now but save the baby' and other type hystrionics. My poor dh didn't really know what to do.

Was so grateful when they said they had to do a c-section as I was about to slit my wrists.

flum I think the whole labour/birth was badly managed and you need to include this in any conversations you have with your midwife/consultant so that you can plan for this to not happen this time Smile
