Did anyone have music playing durong the labour/delivery?

Planning a water birth for dc2 at our local hospital. Not sure if I should bring along some music - nothing too lively, maybe Adele or Ed Sheeran or something. Just might help me relax.

Has anyone else done this?

yes i did with mine. at one point eith ds3 i was danving through contractions to abba!

Yeah I had music (including Adele!) through the labour, it definitely helped to have something else to focus on.

Yeah! I gave birth with system of a down playing, gave me a bit of oomph to help pushing.

I did too.
I had the telly on for most of the early part, and DH played the piano later on (until the midwife decided it was annoying )

I had Abba too! DH played Fernando on the piano and I tried to sing along (badly, unfortunately)

Oh yes. DD was born to Queen. Hilariously, to 'I want to break free'. What timing...

This time it is likely to be to something a bit less hilarious, depending on what route we have to take (on antenatal ward with preeclampsia...)

No. Thought I wanted music but it was bloody annoying when DH started it playing.

I've made a playlist with a few of my favourite chilled out songs on and some classical pieces for labour. Have been playing it for a few days now when I'm in the kitchen or car so baby gets used to it but I may find it annoying during the actual labour.

We also made playlists. But I screamed at DH to turn it off everytime he tried to play it! Very strange... Can't explain why...

Most of my labour was to The Smiths, but towards the end we swapped it for classical. DS was born to Canon by Pachelbel. Which I walked down the aisle to when DH & I got married. So in a way he came down the aisle to Canon too .

The midwives had the radio on in my room during my labour,(epidural so constant monitoring) I didn't mind at all, it was really nice to have it on in the background it made me chill out much more.

Yes with DD1- it hadn't even occured to me but the midwives at the birth centre had a whole range of CDs to choose from. DD was born to the Mamas and Papas .

Brilliant! I didnt even consider this with dd but as I am.planning a waterbirh for dc2 I just thought "hmm....a bit of music would be nice!"

Glad to hear such a variation of songs too Queen would be brilliant. I dont have an Ipod or similar - must remember to ask the MWs if they have a cd player. Alternatively, our phones are relatively decent so could maybe put some.music.on there.

There is a CD player in our Birth Centre - not sure if there is one in the normal delivery suite, but there is definitely capacity for it.

The MWs actively encourage you to bring music along.

'It's too late baby now it's too late' was playing as DD was delivered by C section. Very apt I thought!

I was very considerately asked what music I would like during my ELCS and said anything that helps you all concentrate (I was extremely concerned that the baby would be safely delivered!), so they suggested Norah Jones and I just couldn't let her be born to that shite! So I said no and then they suggested Robbie Williams (who I cannot abide) but I felt like I was being a total wanker to say anything and then keep on refusing their selection...... So she was born to 'angels', which I thought was a horrendous omen, anyway, she was out before the end of the song and then drowned out the remainder of the album with her furious crying. Well done dd.

DS: "Give me a little more time" by Gabrielle - ironic as he was a 29-weeker.

DD: it was nearly "The Power of Love" by Jennifer Rush - I said I wasn't giving birth listening to that shite!!! The anaesthetist gave me her iPod & I picked Ed Sheeran.

Most of my labour took place to Classic FM and it was Christmas Day and every carol seemed to be about giving birth! I did find I could listen to the radio when I was tuning everything else out and it was quite comforting.

Yes I had Beyonce's album playing and apparently I was trying to sing along in the middle of puffs of gas and air! She came out to 'hello' how appropriate

We didn't bring music either time. At one point, with my first, OH suggested he'd put on some of the music on his 'phone (the midwife asked if we had brought anything). I was very focused, in the zone and silent and was really worried I'd have to speak to tell him to turn it off but, thankfully, the moment passed.

With my second, there was music coming through a speaker system, I think - it was quite varied, I remember some Bryan Adams, I think.

Anyway, no harm in bringing some or having a playlist ready and you can see how you feel on the day/night!

Absolutely not and I'd have strangled anyone who suggested it. I actually had John Cage's 4'33" (4 mins 33 seconds of silence) downloaded so I could put it on a loop if anyone insisted on noise (I'd heard for some bloody reason tht they like you to have music if you have to have a section and was keen to avoid this). I'm a nasty person aren't I?
