When can I take a bath with stitches?

Hey everyone. It's been 8 days since I gave birth. I had to get stitches in two places. Not sure how many, although I shower, I would still like to bathe down there.

I was just wondering when can I?

Thanks

When I had stitches I bathed in a salt bath the day after I got home from hospital! The salt really helps with the healing!

Day I got home here too also with salt-not too much!

I was doushing with warm water with tea tree oil in it as I peed immediately after stitches went in and for 10 days afterwards (followed up with a capful of witch hazel on fresh pad in knicks).

No problem having a short bath day of birth in hospital.

8 days on you should be fine (DD had forehead glued rather than stitched last week, and was told keep it dry as poss for 3-5 days, if that helps too). (Note to self - GO GET THE BIO OIL!!!! as nurse recommended to reduce long term scarring)....,.sorry, as you were....

I had many stitches after a serious tear and the only thing that made me feel more comfortable was a daily bath - but had to be warm rather than hot, and with lavender oil or tea tree oil rather than lovely perfumed bubble bath. I'm sure it helped with recovery.

Come to think of it, I'm still waiting to find the time for a lovely hot perfumed bubble bath and DS is now 4 months old Grin

I think salt water baths can be recommended to aid healing.

The midwife got someone to run me a bath to soak in whilst she was stitching me up after dd1 was born.
Given its not exactly a dry area (particularly post birth) I suspect they use stitches that don't dissolve when they get wet.

I vote for lavender oil too. I had an episiotomy and a bath every day made me feel much more comfortable down there.

My mw recommended salt and baby bubble bath

As soon as you want!

Yes to salt, no to bubble bath or any smellies etc,'yowch you doth need thrush or any irritation on top of the soreness you already have!
