too late to change my mind?

Hi all
I am 38 weeks pregnant tomorrow and been having cramps all day, feeling crappy so have a feeling baby (number 4) may be here soon, problem is I am booked in for a homebirth and I'm freaking out, I'm worried about everything that can go wrong and starting to think I'm better off going to hospital.

Is it too late to change my mind?
I feel like I would have wasted the midwifes time as she came and done the assessment and left the box of stuff here.

Getting scared now, worried as well about pain relief I will only have an hours worth of G+A until the second midwife is here and then all in all only have 2 hours worth, I don't think thats going to be enough is it?

Sorry I am all rambling, I hurt and am all crampy.

It's never too late to change your mind. You have to go wherever you'll feel safest. What were your reasons for wanting a home birth? I had 3 dc in hospital and if there ever was a dc4 I ink I'd like to try for a home birth. First birth was awful and I was convinced I needed to be in hospital, but last 2 births have kind of disproved that. My last labour was under an hour and I only got (and needed) a small swig of gas and air. Does your hospital have a birth pool? I had one last time and it was the best pan relief. But good luck whatever you decide, and don't feel you're being a pain, you're really really not x

I wanted a homebirth because I hate being restrained in the car when in labour and thought it would be more relaxing being able to stay at home in familiar surroundings but on the other hand I am a massive wuss and don't think I can do it without pain relief x

How far realistically is the hospital? I was very lucky to be about 5 minutes drive but I agree being in he car isn't nice, especially over speed bumps even at a snails pace! Fwiw, I lent over the back seat, no way could I have sat down. But if it was a long journey I don't suppose I'd have felt comfortable doing that

Its about 25 mins on a good day/ 40 with the roadworks and traffic so a very uncomfortable journey as well as its through some villages.

I don't know what to do at the moment I think if baby comes soon then it will have to be hospital anyway as my other DCs aren't going away until 2 days before due date and I have no alternative childcare x

I'm 38+3 with second and booked in for home birth.
Midwife asks me every time I see her (weekly for bp) if I've changed my mind or have any concerns.
I'm sure your midwife won't mind at all if you decide to go in.
Good luck with your labour

I planned for a homebirth - was sure I'd be happier at home, but when labour got properly going I lost my nerve - went to hospital, felt miles better and labour went very well and quickly - I think you don't know your innermost feelings/fears till the reality hits and it's different for everyone. It's your body, your baby, your birth - everyone else can whistle, really.

so what ever you want to do.... you can change your mind and transfer to hospital at any time without reason...
even if the midwife has arrived

good luck

I have had both mine at home with no pain relief at all as didnt need any Smile lots of people who birth at home dont need much or even any pain releif, but you do what you feel is right for you xxx
