Hi MunchkinJess

I had an elective at the RLH in April this year and it was a great experience. All of the midwives and doctors I met were friendly and explained things clearly and the procedure on the day was very calm and relaxed. Post natal care is much the same as other hospitals from what I hear but the advantage of the RLH is that you can book a private room in advance which I would recommend. It means that your partner can stay with you overnight and isn't restricted to visiting hours - which I found invaluable when recovering. Make sure you take all the painkillers they give you and ask for them if not offered - I did this and my recovery was very straight forward.

If you have any other questions let me know!
x

I didn't have a c section at RLH, but did give birth there and cannot fault it at all. All staff were great, midwife even took baby off me at 3am so I could sleep as she was waking every 30 minutes.

My Foster sister had a c section there two days after Christmas, so the staff were a bit skeletal, but they were still great with her.

If I were to have another child, it would definitely be at the RL.

Great. I had DS in the old hospital there, I believe the new maternity unit is excellent. The midwives were ok(ish) but I had difficulties and required consultant intervention and a dash to theatre - the anaesthetists and OBs were just fab, reassuring, warm, kind - I often think of them.

Post-natal was nothing special but I was only there for 12 hours overnight so I didn't really take in anything but my new baby. It was a surreal, magical sort of night, felt like DS and I were the only people awake in the world...ahh, special times.

Anyway, you'll be fine - it's a good hospital.
