Retained products/ blood clot in uterus after a c section

Hello

Following my ELCS my bleeding and tummy pains have gone on past the 6 week point.

I went to my GP and was referred back to the hospital and they did an ultrasound scan and told me they could see a small mass in my uterus that was either a blood clot or a small piece of retained placenta.

Has anyone else had this? If so what did your hospital suggest? Is more surgery the only option?

Thanks x

Hi I had this 3 weeks post op, I was in agony. Spent a week in hospital all ready for a d and c but thankfully The product fell.out of me. Turned out to be a big chunk of placenta...how they missed it esp during a section I will never know! Hopefully yours may dislodge by itself but it definitely cannot stay in there.

Hi

Thank you both for your replies.

I am going to have another scan and if retained bits are still visable then I will need a d and c.
I am a bit concerned as apparently there is a 1 in 400 chance of piercing the uterus after a c section with a d and c.

Can I ask greenj1 when you had bits of retained placenta did your tummy hurt a lot and was it big and hard and bloated? I have lost my pregnancy weight now at about 6 weeks post op but my tummy is still huge and really hurts and feels super tender. I can only fit into big maternity clothes still.

Thanks for any replies as they are really helpful! xx
