Hi all

I had a Precipitate Labour with my 1st daughter,(was induced at 39 weeks) from start to finish was 1hr 12 mins no pain relief as I was told I'd be in labour for hours.....!! Luckily no cuts either just one small external cut which I didn't have stitched, so anyway I've moved 45-1 hour away from the hospital and I'm not allowed a home birth, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me if labour will be quicker and would it be worth asking for another induction at 40 weeks??

I'm only 14 weeks but had a nightmare last night that I had to give birth on my own on the dual carriageway as the ambulance service was on strike I know silly but I'm now worrying myself sick :( silly I know!!

Any thoughts would be much appreciated x

Not sure if my first counted as precipitate labour, was 2.5hrs start to finish, 2nd one was 45mins start to finish and only just made it to the hospital in time and we live 15mins away.

If I was you I would ask them to induce, hopefully they will be sympathetic given your history. I found second time the mws listened to you a bit more as you know more what you are doing.

Why are you not allowed a home birth?

I am only asking because precipitate labour alone is not enough to preclude it. There is a slightly increased risk of bleeding but it isn't high enough to stop you. If you didn't bleed excessively during your last delivery and have no other exclusions then I would go back to them about this. Home and relaxed is far safer than half way to hospital, stressed and without assistance! One other concern is retained placenta however this can be minimised by refusing the injection post delivery. The injection causes the womb to contract, with a precipitate labour this can lead to it contracting before you have delivered the placenta. Make sure you put this in your birth plan and ensure your midwife and birth partner know.

My fastest was 20 minutes delivered safely at home. Smile

I was 1.5 hours start to finish with number one, 2.5 hours with number 2. I was 7 mins drive from hospital though and felt nervous that I wouldn't make it to the hospital. I would be quite stressed if I was a long drive away.

Sorry everyone only just got our Internet back up and running...!!!

My last pregnancy was rather bad I spent 2 weeks in hospital before they discharged me then had reduced movement so they induced, I was expecting to be in hospital for weeks but was only in 2 nights from start to finish, my hubby got to the hospital with 10 mins to spare before dd was born.

I'm a high risk and under consultant care have yet to see my consultant yet either seeing my midwife on Sunday so will ask why again! I'm not even supposed to have midwife led! Bit annoying really :-(

I'm just panicing a bit with being so far away from the hospital, and hubby is another 45 mins from home as well, I will find out more and see what she says silly I know but I'm hoping for a longer labour this time :-)

Thank you for your responses x

I've been induced 3 times, 1st 3 hours, 2nd 20 mins! 3rd 25 mins I would never risk going into labour at home we live 45 mins from hospital too, they said if I did ring 999.

I would speak to your consultant and see what they think about induction, my cervix was very soft and already dilated at 27 weeks this time so I was watched very carefully before induction at 37 weeks.
