My first dc was born by emcs after failure to progress (hate that term) and my next dc was a vbac which was awful (forceps). I was wondering if I have another child would I be under consultant care again? I'm not sure i could go through another vbac again as it was brutal, would they try to make me have another vbac or would I be able to have a CS because I've had one before? Thanks

am in similar position.
emcs with ds1 and vbac with forceps with ds2. 10 wks with dc3 at mo and have my 1st consultant appointment in 2 wks. so yes you probably will be under consultant care.
i have said to midwife that id like to have another vbac as mine wasn't too horrendous(sp?) recovery after vbac was defenately quicker than emcs but after pains were worse!
am sure you can request a meeting with the head midwife? if the consultant doesn't want to agree to a cs. they prob will try to encourage a vbac but you are within your rights to ask for a elcs.

Hi Welsh I'm exactly the same position as you and have decided to opt for an elective c-sect. You will always be under consultant care as you are classed as high risk due to previous c sect even though you've had a vbac. guidelines now state that women should should have a choice whether they want a vaginal or c sect regardless of whether it's their 1st birth or 5th. Now your consultant can always say no, but you can always get a 2nd opinion.

At the end of the day it's really your choice and so it should be. I hope that helps.

You are fully entitled to request, and receive, an elective CS regardless of your history, as per current NICE guidelines.

CS are in fact 200% safer for the baby than vaginal birth (Royal College of Surgeons research).

I had an elective CS after my emcs. It is an entirely different
kettle of fish. So relaxed and calm. My 2nd baby was a lot more content and easier to settle - I'm convinced this is because he had an easier birth.

Just tell your midwife you want a CS, end of.

Good luck!
