induced with ds1 a couple of days before due date because I had pre eclampsia. Several lots of the induction drugs, they were just about on the point of saying that it was going to be a CS as nothing was happening, had taken 24 hours to get to about 3cm dilated. I was in lots of pain screaming for epidural, they were telling me that i had to wait, the speed I was going at (or not going at!) it was too early for an epidural, it was going to be hours and hours before I could have one (and they wouldn't even put me onto the waiting list for the anesthetist which at that point was at least an hour!). Finally I start pushing at which point they all say no no, much to early to push, got to wait hours to do that yet... and I couldn't help myself so they finally checked and surprise surprise, I was fully dilated and baby was crowning. They then had the bloody cheek to say 'ooh fast dilation - that must have been really painful, why didn't you say something?' No shit Sherlock - like I hadn't been screaming in pain for the previous hour and they kept telling me that nothing was wrong, was going to be lots and lots worse, hours in front of me yet

ds2 - turned up 2 weeks early, no induction needed. Lovely MW who knew of my past history - I'd gone to out patients for an appointment as they were worried my PE was coming back, contractions started just before I got there, had to wait to see consultant who wanted to send me home and to come back in later on - despite the fact that I was having 3 contractions back to back and only a few moments between each set of contractions. MW were all whizzing around trying to order a wheelchair to take me up to the delivery ward as I couldn't walk (just curled up in a ball of pain) and trying to find a delivery kit in case the baby came before the wheelchair did.
As it was, I did make it to the delivery ward, baby turned up about 20 minutes later, MW was able to tell me as I was screaming in pain that I was about 10-15 mins away from delivering, explain it was the baby crowning etc. which made it a whole lot more bearable knowing it was going to be over so soon - whereas at the same point with ds1 (at a big London teaching hospital) they were telling me that the pain was going to get significantly worse, I'd got hours to go, I couldn't have any pain relief, I wasn't really in pain etc which made the whole thing horrific as when you're in so much pain being told that it's going to go on for lots longer and get worse, your brain has problems processing that as you just want it to stop.
So yes - second delivery for me was much better!
Good luck with yours
