Repair to damage in first birth while stitching after second, is it possible?

Hello, I posted about some damage to my perineum before that seemed like it was not repaired properly. I never had a chance to see a GP about yet as pregnant with the second now. But I talked briefly about it with MW and I don't think she fully understood me. I am going to see her again tomorrow to discuss my birth plan and hopping to discuss this again because I am so distressed about my perineum getting further damage nd not getting repair properly again.

Does any one know if it is possible to ask for repair to any damage from first birth while they are stitching up from second? Is it reasonable to bring it up at that time? I think when they stitch up old rips they have to recut, would it be possible to do that when they stitching you up after new delivery?

Any responses please especially if you have personal experience. Thank you!

Yes I've this done.

I had second degree tears every time and it was a bit of a botch after ds1. I never mentioned anything to anyone and after ds2 the midwife said 'Darling you should have told someone, that's so easy to fix'. She packed me off to hospital (home births) and I had a spinal block and complete repair done there, came out feeling like a new woman!

Absolutely. Maybe ask GP or midwife for a referral to the consultant now so that it can be assessed beforehand and plans for repair can be made.

I was told by a friend who is a gynae dr that some mws (by no means all) do terrible stitch up jobs and to be on the safe side, if you tear or need an episiotomy you should always ask for a dr to do the stitching unless you feel that the mw who delivered the baby is very experienced and you feel confident that she knows what she is doing.

I had an episiotomy with DS1 and because it was a bit touch & go whether he'd need ventouse / forceps, there was a dr in the room so she did the episiotomy and stitched me up afterwards. Took a while to heal up but once healed it's been absolutely fine, no infection, you can hardly see the scar. FWIW If I needed stitches this time round (37 + 3 now!) I wouldn't be afraid to ask if a dr could do them, esp if your stitches weren't done properly the first time round and you need previous damage repaired.

Good luck!

In the interests of balance though, my botch repair was done by an on call consultant who had to be called in from home. He was physically pissed off and I believe rushed it purposefully. I ended up with a major infection and at 8days post delivery I have to go to theatre to have

Sorry...

It all redone. The area was so swollen by now that the repair was done as best they could but the scar tissue and lumps of spare skin gave me a terrible sex life. Midwife with dc2 was surprised I even got pregnant again.

Best stitcher was a male midwife at the birth of dc3!

narky - that consultant should be black listed!! if this was America i'm sure someone would have sued him senseless by now, so glad you were able to get a better repair job done after that

hello ladies, got my consultant appointment, I am so glad, it is a bit ways out I will already be almost 38 weeks but so glad I will have a chance to discuss this with someone hopefully good plan of action will be in place and I will be back to normal after this one, which is probably our last.
