Hi ladies - does anyone have any tips on what types of bed/mattress pads are good in case my waters break in the middle of the night? This is my first baby so feeling a little clueless, and also my first mumsnet post. Thank you very much in advance X

I've just brought some cheap boots baby ones. I think they are meant for children that wet the bed. I think they were about £4 for 8.

I am also clueless but have bought puppy pads from tesco, although im not sure they are the right thing! Were only one pound per pack

Great! have you used them yet? I would prefer something breathable, especially in these tropical temperatures. The last thing we need is something that makes us feel even hotter. Thank you!!!

You can get some from Boots, they're in the same bit at the maternity pads. Can't remember how much but v. cheap.

I think I read that something like only 1 in 10 women's waters break before they go into labour though so hopefully they will be an unnecessary precaution for you Grin

I got mine from tesco but they do make you hot due to the plastic waterproof backing. Not sure if its the same for other brands.

My waters broke 4 and a half hours after my labour started just as I was getting back into bed after a useless bath but they didn't even leak through my knickers so it might not be the gush you're expecting.

I don't think you will be asleep and laying in bed when your waters go tbh.

I got the Boots Maternity Mats. I second what previous poster said about plastic backing making you really hot but I think that's unavoidable for them to serve their purpose. I spread 4 of them out under the sheet but when I came to change my bedding a week later I found they had all moved and were folded up meaning they wouldn't have worked had my waters gone in bed. In hindsight a breathable waterproof fitted sheet would have been much better but expensive.

Thank you all once again. I went for a mattress protector as i will probably need it afterwards for the pee, poo, puke and anything else that the baby may spill on the mattress :)
