Still numb 3 months after cesarean - when did you get feeling back after your cesarean?

I had an ELCS in April due to being a big baby in a footling breech position.

I've read that numbness can be permanent but I'm wondering if there's much hope of getting feeling back at this stage. I'm 12 weeks pp.

I am numb from about 1.5 inches above the incision area down to the incision line. It's not that big a deal but it just feels weird.

I am still numb 2 years later I'm afraid! It has come back in places, but am starting to doubt it'll ever go back to normal! :(

I've had two sections, and the product of the last one will be five in August. The area above my scar, which is more or less invisible now, is not numb but definitely a bit desensitised - rather like when you've been lying on your arm but haven't got pins and needles yet!

Funny how it's not something people mention much but seems to be very common. It certainly wasn't mentioned to me as a possible long term consequence. It's actually quite an unpleasant sensation to touch the area above the numbness.
Thanks for your responses ladies.

It was months rather than weeks but did come back eventually. I'm not a medic but I guess a cut like that must go through quite a few nerves?

lessemin · 18/07/2013 11:59

I had forgotten all about the numbness until I read this, so yes it does go away eventually just takes a while.

SandraClegane · 18/07/2013 14:45

Yes, mine stayed a while. As you said slightly above the incision. I don't remember exactly when it went - half a year or even a bit later - it took quite some time. Now, 2 years on, it's absolutely fine until I get my stomach cut open again in January

I am still slightly numb 6 years on. It doesn't bother me in the slightest though, it's only just above the incision line and isn't a problem.

I've just about got most feeling back 9 months later. Mine was a planned section and I'm told that there's less nerve damage with this compared to an emergency so the healing is meant to be better. My friend had an emcs and is still numb from just under her belly button all the way down par the scar over a year later. I guess everyone heals differently thou

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 19/07/2013 00:23

I'm still slightly numb 7 years later!

20 months later I'm entirely numb from scar up to belly button. Please someone tell merit will go or lessen Hmm

bordellosboheme · 19/07/2013 04:36

bordellosboheme · 19/07/2013 04:38

Emcs !

runawaysimba · 19/07/2013 04:43

I think it's a shame they don't tell you anything about scar numbness after a section. I had surgery on my wrist years ago and my physiotherapist got me to "retrain" the nerves around that scar by doing things like gently brushing a toothbrush over it.
I did the same when I had my CS, and think it really helped to bring sensation back.

lotsofcheese · 19/07/2013 22:09

With my 1st section, I can't remembers! I'm now 13 weeks post semi-EMCS (no labour) & numb over a considerable part of my belly. I think it's worst after 2 sections, and I wonder if DD being breech contributed (eg larger incision).

My stomach shape has also entirely changed (for the worse), despite gaining only a stone the entire pregnancy & losing it within a week.
