Probably a silly question.

If you're going to be in hospital for a few days after birth and you'll be alone (no visitors at all) what do you do with your baby if you need the toilet or a shower? Do the midwives/nurses watch them? Take them with you?

At the hospital I was at the midwives would watch your baby if you needed it, but if you're a lone parent you do have to get used to never showering alone

I think different hospitals may have different rules. When I had DS2 9 weeks ago I left him by bed if I was nipping for a pee but took him with me if I was going for a shower.

Ask the midwives what to do. I used to ask the lady in the next bed to keep an eye on my dc if I popped to the loo & vice versa,although we had got chatting already. Showers I took him with me (the cots are on wheels). Dc2 I wasnt in there long enough to worry!

I remember there being a sign up to let the midwives know if you were leaving your baby so that someone could keep an eye on them.

hahh.. No one helps seems to me .. 2 weeks back I had my DS... .
I had to stay in hospital for one night after labour .. as my husband (visitor or partner)was not allowed after 8pm..
as DS is my first child ... I was not very perfect to sooth/satisfy him,he was crying as soon as i was leaving him for toilet I needed to change my pad. I called midwife and asked to be with my son just for 5 mins.. and i will come back as fast as possible.. she said ok.. even i made it in 2 mins but when i returned back i saw my DS in crib crying his lungs out.. alone.. No one was there..

I used to go when she was asleep (we were in 5 days) and just tell the staff where I was going. Managed to shower every day, I also had a couple of baths while DH was visiting.

It's probably easier to take the baby with you to the bath. I have a very happy memory of wheeling DD to the bathroom and lying in the bath telling her we would be going home soon and all about the things I wanted to do with her and places I wanted to take her.

hiya i had my last in hospital and when i needed to pop to the bathroom i left my baby in the cot as i was only gone 5 mins i didnt like doing it but im sure the midwives would wait with baby if you asked but if you was having a bath or shower id take baby with you
