Tips for delivering huge baby? Early induction? If so did you have an 'active' birth if you were induced?

I am currently 28 weeks with dc2. Dc1 was v big and so they will monitor the growth of this one from 30 wks. If it looks like another big one, they will induce at 38 wks.

My first one was an induction and ventouse delivery. While everything ended up ok, it was not the sort of birth I would have wanted - I was almost immobile throughout labour due to the permanent monitoring. I would like to avoid that this time and be able to move more etc. but I know I may only have limited control over this info have to have the drip again.

So, I'd love to hear any positive stories about induction and especially how to keep as active as possible. I don't really want an induction but neither do I want to have another huge baby in case of tearing etc - would be interested to hear from anyone who has been in this position. TIA

It's a tough one. You don't want to have a massive baby, but then induction itself is a risk factor for severe perineal damage and instrumental birth.

I chose not to be induced and gave birth to an 11lb baby. No stitches needed.

If I was being induced and having continuous monitoring I'd insist on a midwife helping me keep pads in place manually so I didn't have to be on the bed. Just say - I'm not lying down, and you have to sort this monitoring out so it works with me in an upright position. OR, consider a fetal scalp electrode if this is on offer, as it allows for better mobility.

Thanks for your reply minifingers. Wow 11lb - I take my hat off to you. Mine was 10lb12. That's the thing - I know induction in itself has risks but I am worried that if this one is same size and goes full term (or 41 weeks like dc1), I won't be able to get him out on my own. But it's great to hear 11lb and no stitches is possible! And that's great advice about the active monitoring - last time the mw just kept telling me to lie still, total opposite of what I expected/ wanted.
