Post birth abdominal dragging feeling! How long for it to go?

Five days ago since pretty easy natural birth and standing up for too long I get a pulling down feeling like everything is going to fall out or dragging me down, its not but just feels like it is.

Walking is exhausting! a simple walk round supermarket wipes me out! I feel like all my core muscles have been removed.

I have had bad spd for a long time but was fit and active before that hit at 18 weeks.

In getting increasingly frustrated with not being able to do the one thing I long to do. Go for a simple walk, that's all i want to do!

The key words in your post...5 DAYS!!

Take it easy, rest and in a week or so you will feel alot better.

I agree with Shelly you just need to give it time. At least 2 weeks before you stop feeling like you have no core muscles. If you still feel like this at your 6 wk check up, ask your gp for a referral to the women's health physio, who will give you exercises to help build your core muscle strength again.

Agreed with previous poster - give yourself a chance! And don't do what I did and go gung ho too soon after my straightforward vaginal birth. I was out and about, always with baby in sling, from about day 16 and I think that's delayed my recovery as my back is a bit tweaked (lo is 11 wks now) and I had a bit of mild incontinece around 8 wks post partum. All cos I think I put too much strain on weak/ battered core muscles too soon.

Oh and I had SPD too - from 19 wks. I think this means you have to be extra careful as things may still be out of whack. I've had a few osteopathy treatments since the birth to help with that.

I also had severe dpd with my last pregnancy and physio said to be very careful after birth if I wanted it to all settle down again. Think long term rather than right now.

Ok, point taken. I'm so desperate to get moving again. I will try to settle down a bit.

You can get special corset things which can help with this, but I would only use one with guidance from a physio. As everyone else said, it's early days. Congrats btw!

Do your pelvic floor exercises religiously - it will help to tone up that whole area - but otherwise take it very easy. It takes about six weeks for your body to recover in the most basic way from a natural birth. In France, you're considered to be post-partum for about two years!
