Fresh blood loss 10 days post section?

Hi ladies,

Didn't know where to post this and guessed this would be the most appropriate place.

I had my DS by EMCS 10 days ago and blood loss was as expected, even a little light (didn't ever 'fill' a pad). It changed colour to a light pink after a few days and then started to go a browny colour.

Since about yesterday, I have noticed bright red fresh blood loss. I can 'feel' it leaving my body and so go to check immediately, that's how I know it is bright red. It's not a lot but has been like this for about two days now. Is this normal or should I contact my midwife?

The health visitor and midwife both have appointments to see me on Friday.

Thanks in advance Smile

first of all congratulations!

can I ask if it is your first baby? if it is you can't compare at all, that's why I'm asking

it can be absolutely normal.
I had ELSC with DS4 and the bleeding was completely different to the others.

I had an episiotomy with my 1st, I bled for over 6 weeks in stop-go style!

I had various flows after all of mine - I even had an egg sized blood clot after about 3 days after my 5th or 6th was born! I called hospital in a panic and after I described it they said it was fine!

TMI, but even my periods are like that stop after 5 days, then return for 2 days. so weird!!

so I would say don't worry for now, but if you have any other symptoms, like fever or feeling sick or being dizzy or absolutely anything else than do contact you midwife or hospital foradvice.

also large blood clots are the things to look out for.

can't remember NHS helpline - but it's open 24/7

one thing - document what's happening. if things get worse (hopefully won't) it helps the professionals to figure out what's going on - it's hard to remember things after a few days!

Thanks for the congratulations!

Yes, it is my first baby. I'm keeping an eye on it as you said and will mention it to my midwife tomorrow.

Thanks for replying Smile

Congratulations for the new baby Smile...

I had emergency Csec as well and after four days I had heavy blood loss with some big clots. I started getting fever as well and went to A&E ...turned out I had endometriosis (uterus infection) and needed to be in hospital for seven days for antibiotics.

Keep an eye out for fever and if you feel unwell head to the doctor immediately.

Definitely keep an eye on the situation. I had that with my second section - surprisingly light bleeding post-section, a few days clear and then at 10 days, blood returned suddenly and it turned into major bleeding and after being told it was entirely normal I ended up with an emergency D&C and a blood transfusion and a truckload of antibiotics - turned out they'd left behind what the ob described as " a large amount" of placenta and it caused more bleeding and internal infection.
Not said to panic you, just to be aware that yes, sometimes there is a problem.

Congrats on the baby!

I'm having exactly the same thing, now 3 weeks post EMCS and my bleeding stops and starts. I went to the walk in clinic at about 2 weeks and had a check over and they said it was fine. Do keep an eye on it though.

At 10 day post CS are you starting to be more active? That might be the reason too.

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 06/07/2013 23:17

thanks for all the congrats Grin I can't stop looking at him!

I was up and about the day after my surgery, I've coped really well with it, so I don't think its being more active.

I'm keeping an eye on it, its not extremely heavy but I have had a couple of large-ish clots. I feel well in myself though, which is a positive.

I mentioned it to my midwife and she said that when the womb contracts back down it has to work really hard when it gets close to the wound so that may be why.

Have follow up appointment with HV on 16th so if it's still the same I'll mention it again.

Thanks everyone :)
