Best post ELCS cot - any experience?

I had an EMCS last time round (perfectly OK experience really) and am going for an ELCS this time as for various reasons am a poor candidate for VBAC. Due in early Nov.

Last time round, we had a Moses basket for our son and lovely OH got up and passed him to me every time he woke up for six months to ensure my scar healed well and I didn't get too frequently woken, but I was wondering this time about investing in a bed nest so that baby is right next to the bed, making it easier to get at him or her.

Any experience of what's best post section? - esp from people who've tried a couple of things! (completely cosleeping isn't for us btw)

We designed and customised a cot ourselves from a normal Mothercare one in the end. We wanted the baby's mattress to be flush with the level of our mattress, for ease of feeding, baby transfering and sleeping, and it seemed the best option. That said, there are a few cots on the market now that provide this I have been told. Good luck!

we're using a baby bay. had emcs last time and horrid birth this time so although not another cs still lots stitches that hurt if I got up. last time had moses basket. this time a baby bay. it's great. can just pull baby over or turn on side and boobs not being quite what they were can feed whilst dd is in babybay and I'm in bedGrin would recommend. cheaper to source direct from Germany apparently. ours is second hand. good luck with baby!

I'm thinking that you will need to strain to pick up your baby no matter what cot you choose since it is the actual getting up that is the worst not the lifting of the baby ( or at least that is how it was for me). If I were you I'd stick to the moses basket if you still have it.

P.S. very impressed that your DH got up to pick up baby til scar healed. ...my DH never so much as rolled over when DD woke up as a new born Envy

Thanks all! I will look at babybay and weigh against moses. I guess you can just slide them out rather than getting up? and boobs in similar state mmmsleep :)

DH is a hero, I have to say

Yes!!!

This www.mumsnet.com/reviews/nursery/cots-cribs-cotbeds/9963-arms-reach-universal-co-sleeper-bedside-cot

Did loads of research, wasn't happy with moses last time, kept wishing for the side down hospital cot I had with her.....had no idea how to get one...looked up hospital cots and they were hundreds.

Years later had a section, did reseach and got this - for £75 in local paper.

Its the BEST thing I have ever spent my money on child related.

Easy smooth transfers, little strain after op, baby soooo happy and contented right next to me face to face.....No worries of co sleeping, DH could reach over me and put baby back in when I had dozed off....large enough to store other stuff in there without it being a danger...

Other friends moaning about lack of sleep, getting up for feeds, my sleep has not been broken, because its all been so near, quick and smooth, I am being woken but not to the same extent.

I was dreading recovery - not great and a new born THIS cot changed my life.

What more can I say!

I have a Moses basket right next to own bed, its fine now but post cs the main painful cot related thing was sitting up in bed to check etc. I only saw that arms reach cot after it was too late but would definitely get one if there was a next time! The changer option on it would also be handy post cs

We have a bed nest, baby is not yet 2 weeks but its the best thing we bought. She had one night in a Moses basket we borrowed and it was a pain. I didn't have csection but did have forceps with episiotomy with burst stitches.

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 20/06/2013 12:24

I use an arms reach co-sleeper, love it, bring it with us when we travel (folds up like a travel cot), one of my best baby buys.

MyDarlingClementine · 20/06/2013 13:48

My best buy Theonlyway...

I wish I had had it with my first and she was a natural delivery with no problems!

I hope they catch on, people don't seem to know about them....it gives you the best of all worlds.

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 20/06/2013 20:40

Totally agree! I bought mine on eBay and ordered a new mattress from an Irish company (cots.ie, fairly good value but didn't answer phones or any emails, I thought I'd been scammed until mattress showed up about 6 weeks later)

My DS2 is nearly 7 months and still sleeps in it when not on me.

TK1930 · 20/06/2013 20:57

I bought mine frm amazon in Germany.
Much cheaper there! Haven't put it to use yet though.
Babybay Maxi it was called.
Good luck x

Agreed northwards - I too thought I had been scammed by cots.ie . But i emailed the US company saying that I couldn't get through on the Irish number and mattress hadn't arrived - within two hours they'd called me and the mattress arrived two days later!

Fruitbatyogi · 22/06/2013 23:01

Bednest was great for getting baby out to feed after cs but I did find it had to get her back in without waking her, or getting out of bed to do it, which I had thought the point of the bed nest was.

Having said all that she didn't really sleep very well at all in the bed nest, eventually i lost the plot with no sleep and bought a baby hammock at 8 weeks and magic 7 hours sleep the next night.
