TMI but not sure if 2nd degree tear is the cause

Just not long in from school run, had to have a shower because I had apparently pooed myself. Not a lot but enough.

I am just pleased I didn't go for a cuppa at my friend's, that would be incredibly embarrassing.

Before we left for school I had just been to the loo to poo, thought I'd wiped enough, felt a bit 'moist' walking back Shock

I had a second degree tear with my natural delivery of my ds 4 years ago. The tearing was front to back, towards my bum. If am truthful, I am finding I feel am never entirely 'clean' even after much careful wiping, using moist loo roll. I end up putting on a sanitary towel if I've pooed for afterwards- don't want skid marks! God I cannot believe I am writing this. Too mortified to tell even my DH or close friends. I don't know whether to go to the gp about this or not.

All those accidents during potty training, esp with dd who had real pooing issues, now I really know how they feel.

Is there anyone who experiences similar?

I don't think I am incontinent but don't want to ignore too much longer, it's potentially really humiliating and a bit manky really. Blush Sad

I found this happened to me for a while too. I had a second degree tear 17 mths ago and it started happening about 10 mths ago. I started panicking about in continence etc but I think in reality I just wasn't getting the time to wipe properly :/ also, things are more numb down there still and I wonder if I hadn't quite finished and 'carried on' without realising if you know what I mean? Either way, as I became conscious of it happening it just stopped. And haven't had it happen for a while. I found using baby wipes helped too. I think you'd know if it was incontinencd related to your tear as you would have experienced problems from the start.

Thanks Neiffer, that's really useful to hear from you. Maybe I do need to take longer, take a book into the bathroom like DH does! I'm also wondering about accessing my labour notes just to appreciate what exactly happened at that point. Then I might see if there's anything else I could be doing to avoid this situation.

Moist toilet paper/babywipes for starters. Can you hold on for a fart? If you can, you are unlikely to have a serious problem. Any piles? That can make thorough wiping trickier?

No improvement. GP. they won't be embarrassed even if you are!

Neiffer · 10/06/2013 14:53

Was going to add about piles, I have to be way more careful with them. It's really embarrassing though, totally empathise. I got to the point where I was considering gp then it just didnt happen again...it's hard when you've got kids to take the time on the loo, but worth it. I'd love to know more about my tear etc as was told it was nearly a 3...not quite. I've friends that suffer incontinence after due to tear and they definitely knew it was incontinence :)

Is it possible you have pelvic floor or prolapse issues?

youaintallthat · 13/06/2013 09:22

If its been going on since your child was born I'd get to the gp most women who have problems following a second degree tear actually find out they've had a third degree tear on seeing a specialist.nYou may need a scan and treatment to help you. It may help to go to a different consultant or hospital too if you do need to see a specialist as I doubt many doctors would admit they misdiagnosed how bad your tear was initially!

Mondaymorningmortification · 13/06/2013 09:42

Everybody thank you! I am wondering what is actually happening- do I have issues due to my tear, piles, pelvic floor issues or just not taking enough time on the loo? I appreciate the suggestions made and will see what happens over the next week or so. If it happens again, I mean that it is a proper 'episode' rather than just skidmarks Blush (is this normal?!) then I will be making an appointment to see my gp. I know they will have seen it all before and I know if it is serious there are solutions, doesn't take away from the fact that my gp is the same age as me so will be extra mortifying!
