daft (and easy) CS questions

Ok. planned CS looming

Inane questions I have which I've forgotten to ask are;

  • do I take a nappy and babygro to theatre with me for baby? I am desperately hoping for skin to skin but last time MW decided to dress LDC rather than let one of us do it and I guess baby needs a nappy sooner rather than later?
  • where do I leave important items like jewellery and phone/purse/ipod etc? Should I take rhem into theatre in a small changing bag gence solving above question.
  • how soon can I eat after the operation? And if I'm first to be operated on how soon can I eat, get dressed, and be able to have visitors? Though I realise this is different for every one DH has to leave for DC1 midafternoon and I'm zworried about coping.

Thanks in advance!

I didn't have to take nappies etc in to theatre - both DC were dressed in recovery after checks were done.

I would keep valuables to a minimum and leave in the car if possible until after and then send DH/P to get them. You should be able to keep your wedding ring on taped over (if you have one).

Last time I was pigging out the minute I was back on the ward! Make sure you have something nice packed to eat as when I had DC1 there were lots of EMCSs which meant I didn't go to theatre til late and by the time I was done all that was left to eat on the ward was a dry cheese sandwich!

Take nappy etc into theatre. we did have skin to skin while I was being stitched, then baby was dressed while I was tidied up and handed back to me before I was wheeled into recovery.

Leave valuables at home, except for a camera. But check, our hospital had lockers for other essentials.

I can't remember about eating.

First time round I had visitors within about 4 hours, still with my catheter in and the bag on display Blush. 2nd time round we had no visitors for a few days as DS2 was in NiCU.

On that note... Babies born by CS are more likely to have some breathing problems than those born by vb. these babies go to NiCU straight from theatre. Discuss with your dp whether you want him to stay with you or go with the baby. We did the latter. (BTW, baby is absolutely fine now).

Ok, I'll check in advance, will leave valuables locked in car. I've only a few visitors I'd be willing to have in hospital and they wouldn't be perturbed by a catheter even though its what im dreading the most!

Re breathing issues thats a concern of mine to be honest, one reason we've delayed the section almost to my due date, DH already knows he stays with baby. (Our DC1 was in NICU for weeks after she suffered a brain injury).

I was starving as soon as I came out of theatre and had loads of tea and toast and cheese as the nurse said it was ok to eat straight away. Was sorry I pigged out as an hour later I was really sick and had to have anti vomiting meds.
Later that evening one of the older midwives told me she always advises caution and something very very light if you must eat as it often causes sickness due to the intestines being disturbed during the op.
