SPD, biggish baby, elective section, what are the chances...........

of my section date being brought forward a bit?
My due date is 19 july, date booked for c/s is 13 july, so not much earlier. My SPD has got a lot worse over the last 2 weeks, and i'm not sure how i'm going to cope if it gets any worse, which i'm sure it will. Had a scan a few weeks ago and baby is 2 or 3 weeks bigger than the dates would suggest he would be(does that make sense?)
I'm not sure I can cope with another eight weeks of this. sorry for being pathetic, just needed to get the thoughts out of my head.

BAHB, I really can't answer your question, but I wanted to sympathise with the SPD. It's no joke is it? Have you had a chat with your mw or consultant about it? If not, are they sympathetic?

Ive had severe SPD, and the consultant agreed to induce me once i got to 38weeks, so it could be worth a try (my induction didnt work though!!).

I'm seeing the m/w at the surgery this afternoon. I might ask her, see what she thinks.

Walrus, I wrote a long reply to your post last night, but the network went down just as I was about to post!!! In a nutshell, nobody has taken any notice of my SPD, doesn't seem to be an "issue" for them. Bloody would be if they had it!!

I had an elective for severe spd in my first pregnancy - but they wouldn't do it before 39 weeks as the SPD was not affecting the baby, only me. DD was just under 9lb. Been told this time that even if they think the baby is over 10lb the earliest date is still 39 weeks. SPD not bad this time around though (she says as the codeine kicks in).

ime there's very little chance of it being brought forward for spd. i had severe spd with dd1 and i was really miserable, desperately hoping i'd get an earlier c-s date. however, at 34 weeks i was diagnosed with placenta praevia grade 4 so i got my earlier c-s date but also 6 weeks in hospital! the 'up' side was that the spd more or less disappeared with the constant bed-rest. but the consultants are very strict with elec c-s dates and i still only had it brought forward 2 weeks before my due date.

have you had any physio? it might help with the pain. i saw an osteopath throughout my 2nd pregnancy and the spd was much better.

btw, attitudes to spd vary greatly from authority to authority. luckily mine takes it very seriously and you can get referred for physio and counselling on how to cope. have you seen the spd website?
