What the he'll would you do with your mattress? Lol I might invest in a waterproof sheet! Or maybe some bed pads haha

I put a waterproof sheet and towel under me for the last few weeks for that very reason!
The sheet comes in handy a few years down the line when DC first goes without nappies at night.

I think I have a waterproof sheet from when Dd was potty trained.
Waters never went first time round and to be honest I never even gave a thought as to what I'd do if they went in bed lol.
Will have to dig it out just incase :)

I was terrified they'd break in the middle if Sainsbury's or somewhere. I wouldn't go shopping on my own for the last few weeks

My waters went in bed all 3 times. Fortunately I had a waterproof under sheet. This also came in handy when my boobs leaked like a tap all over the sheets for the first 2 months of breastfeeding. The sheet was about £30 but paid for itself several times over. I think I got it from John Lewis and it doesn't make any nasty rustling noises like some waterproof sheets do.

You can buy disposable waterproof mats that are also absorbent from tesco for a few quid. Find them in the maternity section next to the pads.

I got these from Boots. Heading into the last 3 week stretch now so haven't used them as yet - but wanted to have something on the bed, couch and carseat as can't afford to wreck any of those!

We have ikea waterproof sheets in all beds now, really useful with children (accidents/vomiting in night or mysterious spills). Wish I had done this before my pfb was born.

My waters never went though, your baby can be born in the waters (something they didn't tell us in antenatal classes).

Mine went just as I was getting into bed - so I narrowly missed the mattress!. Next time I'll definitely be investing in a waterproof sheet thingie.

I had a duvet underneath my sheet due to SPD which was lucky as my waters went during the night, and it was a fairly new mattress.
I was totally unprepared as I'd been told it was rare for your waters to go before any contractions!
The downside was that when I came out of hospital 4 days later, the duvet was still at the bottom of the washing basket where DH had put it!

I bought some cheapy bedsheets, and slept with a 'maternity mat' (waterproof disposable mat like a puppy training mat) and a towel under the bedsheet for the last 6 weeks or so.

I also put a mat and towel on the car seat and on the armchair where I normally sit at home!

My waters broke in bed at 1am, with no contractions or even twinges beforehand. Luckily I had a waterproof cover under the sheet. Definitely worth the investment.

I had a towel underneath me when my waters broke at 4am in the morning.

There was still a bit of a leak onto the matress but it had been all cleaned up by my lovely MIL by the time i got home from giving birth.

mine went at 4am but luckily id just got out of bed for a wee. I did have a cheap waterproof cover though.

I tried a waterproof sheet but it was sweaty and uncomfortable and I gave up with it. I think I kept a towel by the bed. My waters broke just after a trip to the loo so I was awake, I felt them go and the gush of water, and grabbed the towel and shoved it between my legs. Mattress was OK.

I would use these if I were heavily pregnant these days. Pampers do them but they tuck in around a single bed, the drynights ones have sticky pads so you can stick them to the mattress.

Mine went in the middle of the night but just as I went to the loo - not sure if that was why I woke that time! But luckily bed was grand, need to get a waterproof sheet though in case not as lucky this time...

Loupee- Exactly the same thing happened to me! I had a duvet under the sheet as the mattress was shockingly old and uncomfortable and it was sitting next to the washing machine when I came home!

We've invested in a new mattress since then though and extra padding is no longer required so looks like some form of plastic sheeting may be required come autumn....

You can get waterproof mattress covers for double beds. Its good for the next year or so too, what with lochia, breastfeeding, vomiting children?..

waters breaking in the bed is nothing compared to the vomit, wee and other horrors the DCs inflicted on the bed after birth....

A mattress topper has been essential in our house to catch all of the above.
