I told hardly anyone I was planning it. Got fed up of all the cats bum faces.

Didn't tell my parents or inlaws until afterwards. Was v amusing to hear their reactions when I told them I'd just given birth on the living room floor.

I had one in September, people were generally surprised (and called me "brave" as if it were a risky option) but supportive. I am a (hospital) doctor and apparently all doctors have appalling labours so I consider myself pretty lucky! It was 30 hours and tough going but amazing to be in my own bed, shower afterwards, uninterrupted peace, calm happy easy baby, everything on my own terms great start for breastfeeding (I'm still breastfeeding 6 months later). I had amazing midwives who were calm and totally believed in me and got me through the two hours of transition. So glad I did it, so grateful I was fortunate enough to have a normal delivery.
I'm in Sheffield I believe there is a high home birth rate here and my midwives were super confident and relaxed.

I had a planned homebirth with ds4 and It was lovely to be at home in my own enviorenment with just Dh and one mw there. A quick labour so by the time mw 2 arrived she just basicaly helped clear everything up. It was so nice to get in my own shower and have a hot cup of tea when it Was all over. Best of all to get in my own bedSmile
Ds 5 was in fact born at home totaly unplanned and delivered by Dh ! He was supposed to be a water birth in hospital which is where the mw was. Filling up the pool. Ds5 had other ideas Grin

As for what my family thought . Well whos having this baby at the end of the day ? You or them ? Does it really matter what they think ?

Myyounger sister was born at home, normal practice in My Mum's home city. So she and my parents didn't bat an eye lid. When i said DD2 was to be a HB.

DH is a very confident self reliant sort, so he was fine.

Sadly DMIL died while I was expecting her, but she left going to the hospital so late DSIL was almost born in reception. The only other time she fetched up in hospital they left her covered in blood,so she discharged herself. She had various broken bones from being knocked if her bike at the time. Somehow I don't think she'd have worried.
