I'm at 38 weeks (exactly) and just been put down as 3/5 engaged. Could someone set that in context for me please? Is 5/5 or 1/5 unengaged? And is 3/5 far along or just the baby settled in position? I have a feeling first time round ds was 3/5 engaged for around a month and it just meant he had got into position but wasn't necessarily doing anything or going anywhere and it wasn't until he became 2/5 engaged that anyone got excited but I may be remembering that all wrong. Thanks.

I think it means the head is three fifths engaged.

I think Angeliz is right.

I have also been told though that in subsequent pregnancies babies can engage and then un-engage, so it doesn't necessarily mean much.

Oh dear - but the baby might unengage? I know it is ridiculous but this is the hardest thing I find about labour - the lack of certainty/control. I know I've always wanted to be more spontaneous but is labour the right place to start :o.

Was just trying to find some info by googling and I'm not so sure now about the un-engaged bit.

So please don't worry. Smile

Hi, 3/5ths means 2/5 ths of the head is in your pelvis and 3/5 ths is still palpable at the top of pelvic brim.If it is your second or subsequent child it basically means diddly squip !
