Sorry, not the greatest of questions. Going in for second elective but can't remember anything about shaving.... Funny about what your memory blanks out. How far down do I go? How iam actually going to do it this time rounds another question, I am enormous this time round!

Surely they'll do that for you, if it's necessary? Confused

MillyMoo1113 · 24/03/2013 08:47

Well I'm going back 8 years but they asked me to shave about an inch for my elective, had to get dh to help tho!

Then when I got on the operating table, they shaved some more anyway!

McPheetStink · 24/03/2013 08:50

I think I shaved myself. Christ knows how I managed though Confused

Can you ask someone close to help you?

herhonesty · 24/03/2013 09:29

I'm sure they would but would rather do it myself

Ask where any dressings might go: clear that area.

Do you have a DH/DP who could help? It's bound to be a bit you can't see, and you don't want irritated skin

Panzee · 24/03/2013 09:34

Nobody shaved me for my elective a month ago.

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 24/03/2013 09:37

I went for a bikini wax before I had the twins, shaving makes me itch.
It was one less thing to worry about.
The beautician said she gets loads of pregnant ladies in.

noblegiraffe · 24/03/2013 09:39

They'll go through your old scar so you only need to shave around that.

mrsminiverscharlady · 24/03/2013 09:57

Routine shaving is no longer recommended and if it does need to be done it should be done as close to the time of the operation as possible to minimise the risk of infection: let them shave you if it's necessary.

Flisspaps · 24/03/2013 09:59

It's only the top inch or so they take off (they did me in case I needed an EMCS when I had DS, but they had an electric razor rather than a bic!) - so really, it's barely anything they take off.

I'd wait until the day itself if you really are determined to do it yourself, so there's NO time for any regrowth otherwise you'll end up being shorn a second time anyway.

noblegiraffe · 24/03/2013 10:01

I was asked to shave for my ELCS 8 weeks ago. I'd see what your hospital says in that case.

Exhaustipated · 24/03/2013 10:03

Ask about this at your pre op appointment. At my elcs they shaved me with an electric shaver- just an inch or so at the top. Tbh I barely noticed at the time (already numbed) and was happy to not have hair around my scar afterwards!

Beatrixpotty · 24/03/2013 10:08

Just had ELCS and they shaved with electric shaver on the ward that morning.Tried waxing the first time..hmmm..slightly painful...

herhonesty · 24/03/2013 13:11

Tbh they told me to shave at my booking in appt but I was thinking about how I would actually get to it rather than how far down!

i would def wax as low as you can go, my silly waxer didnt do it low enough. and i was shaved anyway. she was also determined to do it as low as she thought it should go rather than how low it should go. she hadnt done it before. anyway - the waxed part was great, you dont want any re growth in your scar.
