If you had a 2nd degree tear first time round, did it happen again 2nd birth?
I had a 2nd degree tear with my first and really hoping I don't with my next birth. But I think it's more likely to happen again if already had one isnt it?!

Hi, I had a bad 2nd degree tear with DD1 & took ages to heal. DD2 was born 6 weeks ago & I had no tearing. It was a really easy birth despite being induced at 42 weeks. I needed hardly any recovery time, DH was holding DD2 1.5 hours after the birth looking rather shell shocked & I wandered up to the Nurses station to get a drink! I also pushed her up to the ward myself.
Good luck Grin.

Had 2nd degree tear first time, 2nd time round, nothing was home 6hrs after delivery Smile. Apparently it's less likely because your muscles don't have so far to stretch (reckon my mw was trying to say I had a bucket lol)
Good luck!

I had a third degree tear first time. Second baby, I had a very slight tear that required a tiny bit of stitching. Healed fine though and I never even noticed it.

MUCH easier all round second time!

Good luck!

Yes both times. But DD2 was 2lb bigger so maybe something to do with it.

MaterFacit · 07/03/2013 16:10

I had a tiny first degree tear along the line of my original second degree tear.

i had 2nd degree tesrs with both mine.. the first time was sooooo painful and took ages to heal. 2nd time was fine after a day or two!?Confused both babies weighed exactly the same!

I had a second degree tear with both, but probably would have avoided any tearing with dd2 if she hadn't decided to come out with her arm up by her face! Even so, it was less painful second time round and healed faster. My midwife recommended witch hazel and I put a few drops of that on my maternity pads - it was amazing! Cooling and soothing.

You're no more likely to tear, but if you do, it's probably going to be as bad as the first time.

I had an episiotomy and 3a tear first time, episiotomy and no tearing (and MUCH bigger baby) second time.

I had bad second degree tear first time, loads of stitches, second time a slight second degree with no need for stitches,

Second time was just better, still painful, but felt more in control and more me.

Hope all goes well.

I had a small 2nd degree tear first time, few stitches, healed fine. MW said it was all going nicely second time. Didn't look like I was going to tear and the little bugger came out with his
hand on his face (thumbsucker maybe?!) and got another 2nd degree tear!!
Pure chance I think!
