Date for ELSC with MCDA twins

Hi,

New to the forum and looking for a bit advice/reassurance. I am expecting MCDA twin boys and currently at 33.2 weeks. Both boys are nearly 5lbs each in weight, no signs of growth issues or TTTS and given the hospital didn't expect us to get much further than 28-30 weeks we are really happy with progress.

We are booked for an elective section due to risks of acute TTTS in a natural labour and have no wish to risk the boys after getting this far. Our section was booked by a stand in consultant when ours was sick and is booked in April due to public holiday at Easter making us nearly 38 weeks. Having looked at various guidelines online and studies into IUD in non-complicated MCDA pregnancies I've become really anxious. Everything says should be sectioned at 36 weeks and given that we were not allowed to let the babies pick their own birthday due to the risks of going beyond 37 weeks I don't understand how a public holiday changes this? I would have thought it would be booked in before easter instead of putting any additional risks on the boys.

I've been hospitalised 3 times recently with BP issues as well and have to be monitored weekly for it.

Just wondering when everyone elses consultant booked their section for?

Thanks

Hi, my MCDA twin boys were born by elcs at 37 weeks 5 days. They wanted to do the section the previous week but ward was too busy. Both boys were born healthy at 6lbs and 6lbs1oz. I had a very straightforward section and we were back home on day 4. All the best for meeting your new babies.

Hi,
The stand in consultant is out of date. The current advice is that MCDA twins should be delivered between 36+0 and 37+0 weeks after a course of steriods. To prolong the pregnancy beyond this point should be your informed choice not to fit around the bank holiday.
This is important and you should get the date changed, the risk is small but definitely there and as you say you have got this far, so why risk it.
You should be having scans every 2 weeks at this stage so bring it up at your next appointment.
Good luck with your boys.

Thanks for the comments. My partners sister had one of her MCDA girls die late in the pregnancy and its why we are soo concerned about them going even 1 day beyond 37 weeks. I'd happily have them out the now and have a small stay in SBCU than not have them at all.

I spoke with TAMBA and the multiple births foundation and they were of the opinion they should come between 36-37 weeks and not be delayed to accomodate a bank holiday so I'm going to take this up with consultant and ask to be section the week prior to this.
